SportsTicker: Phils place Rollins, Snelling on DL

The Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday placed shortstop Jimmy Rollins and outfielder Chris Snelling on the 15-day disabled list.

Rollins, the reigning National League MVP, sprained his left ankle against the New York Mets on April and has not started since.
...
Snelling, who has inflammation in his left knee, was put on the DL, retroactive to April 17.

The Phillies purchased Snelling’s contract from Class AAA Lehigh Valley on April 14 after outfielder Shane Victorino went on the DL. Snelling, 26, has played in only [three games] for Philadelphia this season.
...
To fill the roster spots, the Phillies recalled infielder Brad Harmon from Class AA Reading and outfielder T.J. Bohn from Lehigh Valley.

The World’s Most Fragile Human wastes no time getting back to his normal residency on the DL.  Three days (with the retroactive dating)... who won the pool?

We're seeing TJ Bohn already? ZOMG, they were so shortsighted by not keeping four AAAA outfielders around and letting Michael Restovich go to Japan!

At least the team won't be without an Aussie, with Harman taking Snelling's place. Good luck to him in his ML debut.

Bohn and Harman got the call simply by virtue of being on the 40 man roster. They could save themselves a spot if they moved Snelling to the 60-day DL now. Might as well.

That's pretty bad roster management by the Phils, no? Rollins AB yesterday is going to cost him 3 or 4 days on the DL.

Rollins hasn't started since the 8th, he's 1 for 4 in pinch hitting appearances since. The Phillies have essentially played a man short for nearly two weeks.

Is Rollins the best player that surfaced from the '96 draft?

The Phillies have essentially played a man short for nearly two weeks.

But since that man was the not-ready-for-the-majors Brad Harman, now arrived to back up Eric Bruntlett, it didn't really make a big difference.

Unless one is a big Chad Bradford fan, yes, for sure.

Snelling outlasted Mike Hampton. So, he's got that going for him.

Rollins probably has a better outlook going forward, but if you're just talking career so far, Eric Chavez has to be in that conversation.

Didn't Snelling only come up in the last week?

Roy Oswalt was a 23rd round pick in the '96 draft.

So, no, not Rollins.

No, it appears not. That's what I get for only going 16 (or so) rounds deep. Probably the best hitter, though, unless Chavez really turns it around.

I'm shocked to hear Chris Snelling has hit the disabled list. He's the John O'Brien of baseball. His body refuses to let him play baseball.

Poor Snelling. Now, that guy knows who Randy Johnson is.

I guess I excluded Oswalt, wasn't he a draft and follow? I know this still means he was a 23rd rounder.

Interesting. Goes to show you not to be too sure about a draft for a long damn time. There were some talented and polished college pitchers in that 1st round and a college 1b who was the definition of "polished"... the kind of guys lots of folks clamor for their teams to draft.. and the best players were a draft-and-follow live arm from Mississippi and a small, toolsy HS SS from Oakland

The Phillies did a terrible job managing this situation.

That 96 draft was historically bad. Me thinks the 5th round was better than the 1st round. Amazing.

Ted Lilly was drafted 4 slots behind Oswalt in the 23rd round. How about that.
