SportTicker: Marlins designate OF [Jacque] Jones for assignment

The Florida Marlins designated outfielder Jacque Jones for assignment after their 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Jones, 33, who signed a minor league contract with Florida on May 19 after being released by Detroit six days earlier, hit just .108 (4-for-37) with two RBI in 18 games for the Marlins.

After the game, Jones said he did not know if he will accept the Marlins’ minor league assignment but believes he will clear waivers.

“I knew coming in what the deal was,” said Jones, who was aware he had to perform in order to stay. “This is a good team, a good group of guys. I enjoyed it.”

There’s an opening in Chicago! (I kid)

I feel for the guy. He was often infuriating to watch in Chicago, but he seems like a genuinely good guy.
