Squirrel runs onto field to interrupt play during White Sox-Twins game

In one of the nuttier things to happen at a baseball game this season, a squirrel came onto the field during Tuesday’s White Sox-Twins game.

The squirrel ran onto the field during the bottom of the fifth and the umpire called time to stop play. It ran through the legs of Max Kepler, who was the baserunner at first base for the Twins at the time, straight across the infield and into the White Sox dugout.

Mind you, nowhere near the worse pitch invasion in White Sox history….

If that squirrel is named Amir Garrett then it all make sense

I was at the first rainout at Target Field back in 2010 and a similar thing happened.

he Yankees had runners on runners on first and second with nobody out in the fourth inning. Teixeira popped out to second base, and then a squirrel threw a wrench into New York's rally.

The varmint somehow found his way on to the field, causing a brief delay as he charged toward Twins third baseman Brendan Harris.

The squirrel made a U-turn and headed to the outfield wall to seek shelter from the rain and ran the entire warning track as the crowd chanted, "Let's go squirrel! Let's go squirrel!"

On the next pitch following the momentary delay, Baker struck out Alex Rodriguez, then got Robinson Cano to fly out to end the inning. The squirrel stayed on the field for most of the fifth inning before ducking out of sight.

I hope that squirrel is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. What if it hurt someone?

Randy Johnson and Dave Winfield would know how to handle it.

My favorite part of the telecast last night was when they turned on the StatCast and measured the speed of the squirrel.

Maybe my kids will finally fall for the 'look a squirrel' gag when I'm trying to distract them.
