SSS: Report: Rick Hahn to become White Sox general manager this offseason, Kenny Williams to be kicked upstairs

Grab some bench.

The White Sox have groomed Hahn as Williams’ likely successor. Jerry Reinsdorf both loves and rewards loyalty and Hahn has rejected several general manager job opportunities over the past few years.

Whether warranted or not, Hahn is considered far more friendly to sabermetrics than Williams, though he is by no means beholden to just one approach to player evaluation. In interviews and conversations, Hahn certainly comes across as someone well-versed in all aspects and approaches to analysis.

Hahn turned down the opportunity to interview for the Pirates' job back when they first hired Huntington.

I wonder if he Reinsdorf figured the only way to keep them both was to kick Kenny upstairs?

From what I saw of Red Sawx Nation's postings here and on SOSH, he was their first choice to take over for Theo, or at least high on their list. Every offseason Hahn is a hot GM candidate and every offseason he stays with the Sox. It's probably because this deal was a long time coming.

KW has been making noise about moving upstairs for a couple years now. He wants to spend more time with the family, is a bit burnt out, all the usual things. JR is nothing if not loyal, after bringing the 1st WS championship in around 100 years and producing mostly winning baseball, I'm sure KW has a lifetime job with the Sox if he wants it.

All in all, a good transition, Hahn seems like a real sharp, measured guy, and *knock on wood* with the Sox going to the playoffs, KW can go out on a high note.
