Star-Tribune: Souhan - The Boone doesn’t hit, and he also doesn’t fit (RR)

How quickly will the Twins cut bait on Bret Boone?

Now that we’re approaching the end of the Bret Boone era—my favorite moment was the walk—it’s time for the Twins to look under another family tree for help… Like New Coke, Old Spice, pet rocks and the AMC Gremlin, trading for Bret Boone seemed like a good idea at the time, mainly because he passed the ultimate Twins requirement of being cheaper than screw-cap Chianti.

... As crazy as this sounds, Luis Rodriguez, Glenn Williams, Brent Abernathy, Nick Punto and Jason Bartlett have a better chance of getting a hit these days than the man known to himself as The Boone. And most of them are better in the field.

Seems a little early to declare Boone totally useless. 42 PA? Can any Twins fans testify as to whether or not he looks shot?

He's useless.

Am I the only one who thinks that Boone would have made a good target for drug testing during the past several seasons? Not including this one, of course.

He's done. There's no recovery from a slow bat, except bad pitchers....wait a minute....the Twins at the Yankees this week?....nevermind.

Gotham - no, it's not. Boone was awful in Seattle.

He blows.

Done-zo

He still looks slow and lost. Gardy and Ryan have both said that the rust should be off by now and we're looking at what's left. He's even been bad in the field, removing the last use for him.

He did do us a great service however: Luis Rivas is hitting well AS A RED WING. (Thanks Bret!)

By the way, were they pushing Ka-Boone (a children's book about the life of Bret) in Minnesota?

It came about a week or so before he was released.

Royce Clayton would listen if the Twins called.

Old Spice and the Gremlin?

Bret Boone, and/or the writer, should have careers have as long as or as profitable.

Who wants to bet that Boone and Leiter get released on the same day?
