Stereogum: Black Lips – “Noc-A-Homa” Video

Even Joe Scarpa cringes at how completely lost Stereogum is…

The video for Atlanta garage warriors Black Lips’ psych-rock gutter-gargle “Noc-A-Homa” doesn’t exactly make a whole lot of straightforward sense, but it’s something about a homeless native American band who joins forces with the band, playing a softball team full of ########, after he gains some kind of magical strength through garbage. It also has the Black Lips imitating Gallagher, and it’s pretty easy to imagine that becoming a regular part of their live show.

I love the Keys. Really. But they aren't significantly better than about 50 other garage bands. Why all the mainstream attention over say, The Lyres, Original Sins, Creatures of the Golden Dawn, Swingin' Neckbreakers, Dirtbombs, Von Bondies, Detroit Cobras, etc, etc.?? I understand the unpredictable quirks of consumer consumption but does it all come down to marketing or do they have "something" that I underrate?

I love the Keys.

I hope you mean The Black Lips and not The Black Keys.

Take it to the Quintin Berry thread.

it was apparently filmed about a quarter mile from my house, in Cabbagetown and Kirkwood, from the identifiable landmarks. An alternatively gritty and hipster part of town, appropriately.

Yes, my apologies. Brain cramp. I meant Lips. I can't speak to the Black Keys as I've never seen them and I consider them more primal blues than garage rock. The Lips I've seen plenty. And to be clear, I think they're awesome. I'm just looking for some garage rock justice. In the end, though, rock on garage brothers, whatever your name may be.

It does kind of, actually. Like Smash Mouth covering the Hives.

Instead of not having anyone inducted into the HOF next year, can we do some sort of hardcore gaming of the "broadcasters" voting and induct Repoz. Because seriously. I mean, ####### SERIOUSLY, PEOPLE!

I preferred the music video filmed near me.

Cabbagetown was hipster before hipster was cool. Calling Cabbagetown hipster is like calling the Left Bank hipster.
