Strasburg to the DL

The move to the DL is retroactive to July 22, a day after Strasburg made his last appearance. He was scratched minutes before he was to make his 10th major league start Tuesday, because his right shoulder felt stiff while he was warming up in the bullpen.

Someone find Joey B. and take away his belts, ties, shoelaces and sharp objects.

Somebody call Mark Prior and tell him his record is in danger of falling.

In related news, Jim Bunning, in a fit of burning rage, went on a shooting spree in downtown Lexington, KY., killing 7 and wounding 14 others. Details to follow.

The MRI says he's fine. I hope they looked at the correct shoulder.

I hope they looked at the correct shoulder.

Of course they did. This isn't the Mets, silly.

Good move.

His shoulder's stiff, they don't know why, so I think it’s a no-brainer to give him a couple weeks off.

It would be a good idea for the Nats to pitch him some more this year - provided tere are no other warning signs.

If they don't build on his innings sufficiently they will be looking at shutting him down early next year too.

why exactly do people think I dislike strasburg or wish him any ill will?
   11. TerpNats Posted: July 29, 2010 at 08:17 PM (#3602992)
The Nats were going to shut him down eventually. Do it now through a stint on the DL, and if everything is 100% he can likely pitch late into September, enabling him to be used in stretch games against contenders.

I'm worrying a little about all this, but not too much. As long as he stays out of bars during the off-season...

Whites Sox pitching coach Don Cooper fears Strasburg may be a lot like Prior and Wood due to his pitching motion.

Maybe Steve Phillips wasn't as stupid as we thought several weeks ago when he suggested trading Strasburg for Roy Oswalt. Time will tell.

It may just be precautionary, but when I read this headline, I yelled "No!" a bit too loudly for comfort.

Seeing what it took to get Oswalt Steve is still stupid.

I think it's his follow-through more than any similarities to Prior and Wood (whose mechanical issues were different to each other, as well).

Since there's no way to say, "I saw this coming," without coming off like a self-congratulatory a-hole who's more interested in being "right" than in watching a wonderful young talent light up the major leagues, I'll just say it:

I saw this coming.

If he fixes the follow-through, I think he'll be okay. I agree with Cooper that his arm action isn't ideal, but it's nowhere near as bad as Prior's was. He should also be throwing harder than he already is, which sounds crazy. But he's losing some velocity (no more than 2-3 mph) by actively stopping his arm the way he does, in addition to putting himself at risk of a shoulder injury (most likely labrum-related).

You also said you'd trade him straight up for Justin Smoak, Wade Davis, and a host of other guys.

Yes I did.

11...the voodoo doll you have hanging from your rear view mirror might be the reason.

But he didn't list Domonic Brown, so what the hell does he know?
