Street taken to hospital after hit by liner

Closer Huston Street was transported to a local hospital after being hit in the inner pelvic area by a line drive off the bat of teammate Ian Stewart during batting practice before Tuesday night’s game against the Pirates at Coors Field.

Street, who was playing catch in the right-field corner at the time of the incident, felt some pain down his right leg and fainted “two or three times” in the 15 or so minutes before the ambulance arrived, according to head athletic trainer Keith Dugger. The ball left a black-and-blue mark.

“I think his body actually kind of went into shock, because he actually said he wasn’t in much pain,” Dugger said. “The thing that was kind of alarming is that he said he had ringing in the ears. We don’t know. Sometimes it’s just a sign of shock. He could have held his breath and gotten this natural response.”

Scary.

Is "inner pelvis" a euphemism for the old bat and balls? If so, good gawd!

who is the temporary closer? Is it Corpas?

That must have been a hell of a line drive if he was in the right-field corner when he got hit.

I feel bad for Street. Especially since he's a Longhorn legend. But I always find it a little ridiculous that so many people are doing so many different things during BP. Can the pitchers that need long toss or whatever else really not show up an hour earlier to get that work in?

The announcers did not mention "groin area" during the broadcast, so I assume it really was the abdomen and not a euphemism. Perhaps the bigger tip off is that people said at first it didn't seem like he was hurt.

As his bb-ref sponsorship says, Stewart hits the ball HARD.

The Rockies have decided to lose as many games as possible in the 2nd half so you don't need to worry about their closers.

Well, I don't know which liner hit him, but RMS Queen Mary 2 is 148,528 gross tons, so I imagine it would hurt.

The news report of the plane crash in Pakistan got me thinking about the term "liner". The report I heard kept calling it an "airliner". I would say they are airplanes or jets, not airliners. Same with ships, not ocean liners. Are these regional/colloquial differences, or is it the implication that they carry people instead of freight? That's probably it, I suppose. "Airliner" seems like a strange term. THe air part makes sense...but the lines they make are pretty arbitrary.

And what's the deal with the little bag of peanuts? Am I right, people?

If we can send men to the moon, we should be able to make a product that prevents injury to the groin, inner pelvic area and the old bat and balls!

According to my fantasy updates (Street's on my team), Corpas will be the temporary closer.
