Taking Back the Ballparks - A’s voting thread

And we’ve reached the end. While I have no doubt what the winner will be, I had no interest in ending the series by Executive Order, so we’ll vote it out. Actually, there is some question which version of the Coliseum will get the nod.

Choose One. If you opt for No. 2, then choose one of the three options below:

1)  Athletic Field
2)  Some form of Coliseum
  a) The Coliseum
  b) Oakland Coliseum
  c) Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Thanks to all who participated. I think the recent name changes in Seattle, San Fran and Milwaukee served as a nice reminder why we engaged in this bit of frivolity to begin with.

Vote wisely.

Does anyone want to make a case for which Coliseum name is best?

If the Howard site ever happens, and I remain skeptical, then it will inevitably be a corporate name. Clorox is headquartered close by, my money is on them.

But if the new park is built at the old coliseum site then it MUST be named Oakland Coliseum.

(I think the latter happens: land already owned which mitigates permitting/EIR/CEQA issues, plus BART station, parking, and freeway exit already in place.)

Within the Coliseum options, I prefer C because, look, have you ever been there. It's definitely an Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

I always think of it as The Coliseum. But that's probably best as a local name only. If you're in Fremont or Berkeley or Alameda (the city) and you say "The Coliseum", it is obvious what you're referring to. If you're in Sioux Falls or Mankato, that name's going to need some clarification. So:

2b: The Oakland Coliseum

Finley Field. No, not really. Just a throwback to stadium name discussion. 17 gets it

Are you voting for 2b, Master?

Your vote counts as much as the next guy. Well, unless that next guy is me.

I voted for Oakland Coliseum because there's also one in Los Angeles that has both hosted MLB and continues to be in use in big-time sports.

SoSH, are you going to put up a thread or something with all of the results? Something that can be bookmarked or linked to. I'd like to be able to find all of the names quickly when I'm referring to the parks.

If it's a thread, then we can also discuss how we all think this project went.
   29. SoSH U at work Posted: February 01, 2019 at 12:23 PM (#5811048)
Greg.

Sure.

For the record, in this one, Oakland Coliseum was a narrow winner over Oakland-Alameda County.
