B) Astrodome 2000

D) Minute Maid Park.

"Astrodome 2000" just reeks of failure and mediocrity, not to mention a leaky roof.

Astrodome2000!

Honestly, I feel sorry for proposing and voting for a hokey name, but none of the safe boring nominees made it through to this round. Minute Maid, yuck. Gotta be Astrodome2000. Without the space, preferably.
   4. Baldrick Posted: June 13, 2018 at 09:22 PM (#5691753)
A) Apollo Park

The goofiness of Astrodome 2000 is too much for me, though I won't be mad when/if it wins.

A Apollo Park
   6. Steve Parris, Je t'aime Posted: June 13, 2018 at 10:56 PM (#5691816)
B) Astrodome 2000

I don't know what Crawford Grounds is, but it's not as horrible as the other 3 choices, so it gets my vote.
   8. Baldrick Posted: June 14, 2018 at 12:09 AM (#5691851)
The stadium is on Crawford St, and the seats out in left field over the scoreboard are called the Crawford Boxes.

Apollo Park.

B) Astrodome 2000

Blech. We’ve done about as poorly here as in the Tigers naming thread.

I guess C.

I guess I'm odd here in that I like these choices. That said, none really stick out from the back.

When in doubt, go with the most conventional sounding name, as it isn't likely to age poorly for me.

So my vote: C) Crawford Grounds.

This may be the silliest name I vote for in this whole endeavour, but I am going with B - Astrodome 2000.

The new options are not better than the current name, which is why I vote D.
   17. . . . . . . Posted: June 18, 2018 at 10:29 PM (#5694893)
D. What’s wrong with the current name?
   18. Rusty Priske Posted: June 20, 2018 at 09:34 AM (#5695957)
First people vote for Coors for the Rockies and now people are defending Minute Maid?

Let's just call them all Mindless Capitalism Park and call it a day...

Voting closes tomorrow at noon ET.

A) Astrodome 2000.

I prefer Apollo Park, but I'd rather see any of the other three than Minute Maid (I really don't get the backing. There was no support for Citi Field and Safeco, both original names and vastly superior ones to MM).

   20. Jose is an Absurd Force of Nature Posted: June 20, 2018 at 01:01 PM (#5696184)
People grew up drinking Minute Maid orange juice, no one grew up banking at CitiBank or do whatever Safeco does.
   21. Pat Rapper's Delight (as quoted on MLB Network) Posted: June 20, 2018 at 01:02 PM (#5696185)
I'm abstaining from this one only because I want the Astrodome name to stand alone without a year designation on it.
   22. JJ1986 Posted: June 20, 2018 at 01:05 PM (#5696190)
Crawford Grounds

And where do you think of when you hear Minute Maid?

Nothing, now. But to my taste, it will become worse in a few years once the official name becomes TexBank Park or whatever.

Nabnasset School in Westford, MA.

My comment was admittedly a bit of snark but I think "Minute Maid Park" is doing well because unconsciously people have a positive reaction to the name "Minute Maid."
   26. PreservedFish Posted: June 20, 2018 at 01:42 PM (#5696244)
The Astros abrogated their right to determine the name of this park when they inked their deal with Enron. That would be true even if it wasn't the worst company ever.

Apollo Park

So, in one of the few votes that had across-the-board support, Astrodome 2000 is the choice. It does seem a little fitting that the least serious of our new names have gone to the two quirkiest of the new ballparks - Astrodome 2000 and the Fish Tank.

The Snakes will be up shortly.

I support the process, so OK, but I'll admit to being baffled by this one.

This one feels like a place where results might have been different with ranked choice voting.

Chemically preserved phony orange juice that I wouldn't feed to my worst enemy. But that's still better than thinking about the stadium that introduced plastic grass to baseball diamonds, never hosted a championship team in any sport, and was the site of an All-Star game with 8 hits, 20 strikeouts, and the only run scoring on a double play. Bringing back the Astrodome name would be like bringing back the Vietnam war.
