Taking Back the Ballparks - Dodgers voting thread

This one’s simple enough. The existing name, or it’s long-time alt handle.

A) Chavez Ravine
B) Dodger Stadium

Next up: The new name grates.

Chavez Ravine is mellifluous and evocative.

Dodger Stadium is acceptable, but unimaginative.

At least a week and whatever point A has one more vote than B.

Chavez Ravine is a bit hard to endorse based on the history of the land grab that the O'Malleys perpetrated on a hispanic community that once occupied that part of town. Lots of Latinos still remember what went down, but I can't say for sure what the feeling is these days.

not taking a stance, just pointing it out.

Dodger Stadium. Chavez Ravine is a non-starter, given the history that phredbird noted above. This wouldn't be like calling the Orioles park Camden Yards.

Chavez Ravine.

As for #12, I'd make the argument that calling it that serves as a reminder for what happened, while calling it "Dodger Stadium" would be the erasure- I freely admit, though, that this may not be the consensual argument.

#15 is my thought exactly.

In a perfect world, I'd agree, but this is 2018 and subtleties can be lost. Not to mention that naming it after the destroyed section of town would do nothing for the remaining displaced people but remind them of their displacement.

Besides which, it's been Dodger Stadium for 56 years and nobody's seriously taken issue with it. Leave well enough alone.

Chavez Ravine.

I have not heard a convincing argument that either name inflames or mollifies the people involved in any long ago harm done, and it just plain sounds better.

While noting #17, I come down on the side of #15. Keep Chavez Ravine, and its history, in front of people. Although I'm neither Latino nor from LA, so I could be way off base.

I hate changing a stadium name that has never been changed before, and is in relatively little danger of being otherwise changed in the near future.

If Baltimore can have Oriole Park at Camden Yards, I can't see how Dodgers can't have Dodger Stadium at Chavez Ravine. I vote A+B.

We'll wrap this up tomorrow. We'll hold off on starting the next club until after the postseason.

Interesting Nate. I left a comment.

As mentioned in the other thread, Chavez Ravine edged out Dodger Stadium.

We'll resume the series with the White Sox after the World Series.
