Taking Back the Ballparks - Rays voting thread

The Rays nominating thread attracted about as much attention as mid-day Rays game with the visiting Athletics.

Alas, we press on.

Choose one of the five names listed below.
A) The Aquarium
B) Rays Field
C) Suncoast Dome
D) Thunderdome
E) Tropicana Field

Editor’s Note: This will be the final installment of TBtB for a while. We’re going to take the playoffs off and resume the series in November.

E. Tropicana Field.

The others are nice. I especially like the way C sounds. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

And I like the name Tropicana Field. I even like the nickname: The Trop.

C) Suncoast Dome

Torn between C and E, but going with
C "Suncoast Dome".

I just decided that, just decided it right here on the spot.

C) Suncoast Dome

I get the arguments for E, but it's still a purchased corporate name, unlike Busch or Wrigley.

E - Tropicana Field. I don't really love the other options. It's a wonderfully bland name for a wonderfully bland facility. I'm with Dag on "The Trop" also.
   6. Ziggy: The Platonic Form of Russell Branyan Posted: October 02, 2017 at 03:29 PM (#5543010)
I'm voting for A. We have enough 'fields' and 'parks' and so on.
   7. Baldrick Posted: October 02, 2017 at 03:32 PM (#5543018)
I love that it used to be called Thunderdome, and it would be cool if it ended up that way organically. But in my heart of hearts I know it's a silly name that doesn't make any sense in the context of the Rays. So I'm going to vote:

E - Tropicana Field

For precisely the same reasons as Jose. Seems wrong to give the place a 'better' name.
   8. Steve Parris, Je t'aime Posted: October 02, 2017 at 03:43 PM (#5543034)
D. We need more absurd names.
   9. villageidiom Posted: October 02, 2017 at 05:12 PM (#5543132)
C, for the same rationale as Greg Pope.

I still wish the name ended with "Arena" instead of "Dome". An indoor sports facility with that kind of ambiance is really befitting of the term "arena". But nominations are done, and I'm voting with the ballot I have, not the one I wish I had.

Some good choices to pick from.
   11. Mellow Mouse, Benevolent Space Tyrant Posted: October 03, 2017 at 10:45 AM (#5543382)
C) Suncoast Dome
   12. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 03, 2017 at 10:54 AM (#5543389)
D, D, a thousand times D.
   13. Rusty Priske Posted: October 03, 2017 at 11:00 AM (#5543397)
E

If it was ranked ballot, it would be in perfect reverse order. E feels the most natural. D is kind of fun. C is okay. B is bland. A is awful.

Down with purchased naming rights!

Suncoast Dome
   15. TDF, FCL Posted: October 03, 2017 at 02:56 PM (#5543575)
C
   16. RickA. Posted: October 03, 2017 at 03:55 PM (#5543661)
E - Tropicana Field
   17. Where have you gone Brady Anderson? Posted: October 03, 2017 at 06:44 PM (#5543780)
D - Thunderdome!
   18. PreservedFish Posted: October 03, 2017 at 08:12 PM (#5543828)
I vote for E.

But I'm definitely going to call it the Thunderdome too.
   19. SoSH U at work Posted: October 03, 2017 at 08:26 PM (#5543849)
C - Suncoast Dome.

Thunderdome was a great name when the Lightning played there. Tropicana Field isn't bad, as far as those things go. But the original strikes me as the best of the three.
   20. PreservedFish Posted: October 03, 2017 at 08:30 PM (#5543854)
Hmm. I didn't realize that Suncoast was historical. I'm changing my vote to C.
   21. stevegamer Posted: October 03, 2017 at 10:02 PM (#5543949)
Tough choice, but going with:

C - Suncoast Dome

It's a dome, and I think it needs to be named as such, in case it once again is a multi-sport facility.
   22. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: October 03, 2017 at 10:17 PM (#5543974)
E - Tropicana Field

Apparently not, and you may not be quite caught up on the corporate sponsorship name of the bowl, this is actually sort of relevant to the renaming thread concept:

Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl

I hate not to vote, but don't find a lot of excitement in the choices :( I will go with Thunderdome.

I vote C - Suncoast Dome
   28. SoSH U at work Posted: October 10, 2017 at 10:11 AM (#5548653)
Voting closed yesterday, though no one really noticed.

The clear choice among the cognoscenti was for the original name, the Suncoast Dome, which received double the support of the current moniker, Tropicana Field.

As previously mentioned, TBtB will be on hiatus until after the postseason has concluded.

What will be the next team on the docket for after the World Series? We can get some ideas percolating.

Fair enough:

Here's the docket for the next five installments.

Feel free to give these some thought, but let's try to avoid sharing any of these ideas until the proper thread.

Philadelphia Phillies
Seattle Mariners
Pittsburgh Pirates
Chicago White Sox
New York Mets

First, I resent being lumped in with the cognoscenti, whatever that is.

Second, I humbly request that you or some powerful Primate unpin that Nationals thread from the top of the Newsstand. As a Nats fan it just serves as a painful reminder of yet another failed post-season campaign.

Thank you.

I like D - Thunderdome
   33. Walt Davis Posted: October 15, 2017 at 07:23 PM (#5554417)
Nooooo!!!! I missed this one!! I've had my joke lined up for weeks!

Rather than taking it back, can we give it back?
   34. BDC Posted: October 16, 2017 at 09:07 AM (#5554802)
Phillies Ballpark in Philadelphia
Mariners Ballpark in Seattle
Pirates Ballpark in Pittsburgh
White Sox Ballpark in Chicago
Mets Ballpark in New York

White Sox Ballpark in Chicago

Old or new, regardless what name's on the marquee, it will never be anything but Sox Park to my White Sox fan father-in-law.
