TBO: Nerdy Rays head north

They’ve outdone themselves with the theme this time.

Joe Maddon thought up the Ken Rosenthal/Nerd road trip theme to raise money for BowTie Cause, a philanthropic initiative started by former NFL linebacker Dhani Jones.

Rosenthal, who is in Boston in anticipation of Fox’s broadcast of the Rays-Red Sox on Saturday night, tweeted he will meet the Rays plane and judge the nerdiest Ray.

They aren't very creative. They're all wearing the same basic thing.

If I were a Ray I'd set myself apart from the group with a TNG-style Command Division uniform, 3-pips for a Commander rank. Neatly trimmed full beard + Trombone.

It's like they've confused "nerd" with "hipster".

Like the great tenor/umpire in #1 said, I would have gone in a different direction.
Possibly a LARPing outfit (like this), or even a wizard cloak and hat (while holding a bag of D&D dice).

Madden looks like some 1960's insurance salesman who was trying to dress "mod" to impress the "chicks", but could only find a combination like that in his Greensboro Belk-Leggets. A couple of them look like rejects from a 1990's NYT Magazine fashion ad. But all of them just look like they're having a good time. Too bad they're not flying commercial just to see what kind of a reaction they'd get.

Oh, I strongly disagree. Nerds can go to the Sunglass Hut too.

And that's why he looks like a real nerd. Nerds do not wear nerd uniforms. They wear mostly dorky clothing, and when they try to integrate non-dorky clothing into their repertoire, it just looks awkward, and somehow even more dorky.

He also has a bit of a cowlick.
