Teixeira officially out, Romero eligibility unknown in 1-7’s WBC news (ALSO: FULL TAIWAN ROSTER)

(Link: Article on Romero, which mentions the fact his eligibility for the WBC is under question given the suspension)

Well, J.C. Romero is suspended. So what does that mean for his WBC status? Not sure.

Still to be determined is whether Romero, a native of Puerto Rico, will be allowed to pitch in the World Baseball Classic in March.

Confirming what everyone suspected, Mark Teixeira won’t be in the Classic.

“It’s very important that I learn my teammates, learn my coaches, and just have that solid base to start the season,” Teixeira said. “I would feel terrible if I showed up to spring training and two days later said, ‘See you guys, see you in three weeks.’ I want to be a part of the team in spring training. That was my choice, and I told every team that was my plan.”

Then there is Chan Ho Park who is unsure if he’ll play. He wants to work harder on winning a starting spot.

Finally, some were complaining how no names were on the Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) press release on the preliminary roster being released. Well, a Taiwan Baseball blog has a roster up. I don’t know if it is legit, but it’s the best I can find. It can be found at this link.

Oh, I’ve been asked if I’d start posting my projected rosters again. Well, I fell behind a while back, and the computer I have it on is being repaired. So I’ll update it if needed when I get that computer back. However, the Baseball Reference Bullpen Wiki has a page on WBC 2009 rosters. I wouldn’t believe it completely, as anyone could edit it (and I can’t find sources for many of the things in it), but it does a reasonably good job of listing people who were either listed on prelims, have said they would play if asked (hence, Jeremy Guthrie is mentioned with the USA, but it’s unlikely he’ll actually be on the team unless if the pitchers continue to say “no” 95% of the time) or have said they weren’t interested.

Damn, and here I thought the headline may mean he's out for the season.

3)Chen-Chang Lee (Indians)

Is this Cliff Lee's real name?

Nope, it's my real name. I'm pitching for Taiwan. On one hand, it's bizarre because I've got an ouchy throwing shoulder and I'm Hungarian-German. On the other hand, I'm as Taiwanese as Clay Bellinger is Greek, so it all works out.

(Actually, Chen-Chang Lee is a sidearmer the Indians chased for about three years and eventually signed last fall. Throws in the low 90s, 22 years old.)
