He's got Thome falling short and Hoffman squeaking in. Thome is 20 for 20. For those of us who thought the electorate could make him wait a year or 3, we may be proven wrong and the electorate may get this correct. Hoffman has lost one, but gained 2 so the prediction looks solid. Chipper is a lock and Vlad(gained 3 already) should cruise in with about 80% now.

Could be a class of 4, that would be fun.

Andruw Jones one and done? The hell? (I mean, he's not exactly a slam dunk, but 63 WAR and a bunch of gold gloves should count for something, yes?)

I mean, I think Thome will breeze in. But I do have a slight hesitation based on the sample size we're drawing from. Namely, he's 20/20 from an electorate that's 18/20 for Clemens (without him gaining a single vote). We should probably wait to get a slightly more diverse sample size to be certain that he'll make it.

Amongst sillyball era center fielders, he's no better a candidate (and possibly a worse one) than Edmonds or Lofton, who were both one and done.

I had forgotten Edmonds was one and done. That just makes me sad.

Omar Vizquel (20) – Many writers are touting Vizquel as a serious new Hall of Fame candidate, noting his 2877 hits and 11 Gold Gloves at shortstop. My question: Where were those writers while he was playing? Vizquel received a total of three MVP points in his entire career!

Deane is bringing the heat in this article.

By War maybe, but he has a lot to offer to the conventional voters, the extreme silly(well deserved) defensive reputation, 50 homerun season, rookie post season, etc... I fully expect Andruw Jones to do better than Edmonds or Lofton on the hof ballot, if he doesn't that would be a shock to me. I'm of course an Edmonds fan, but Jones just felt more hofer type of guy at his peak when he played.

From the article:

Manny, who is on the ballot for the second time, finished with 555 homers and a .312 career average. The only man to top him in both categories? Babe Ruth.

Arbitrary cutoffs, obviously, but still...damn. Never realized that.

Considering how dramatically the crop of newcomers to the ballot starts to drop off starting in 2020, it seems a good time to re-iterate yet again how short sighted and silly the decision to reduce the number of years on the ballot from 15 to 10 was. Several players who had no chance on the crowded ballot but were nonetheless worthy could have used the lean years to start building support. Now they're going to be timing out instead.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have another shutout sometime. Or at the least we'll probably have a couple of 1 player elections.
