HOW WILL OMNICHATTER BE LATE TODAY?!

Omnichatter is never late, because it's not a party until Omnichatter arrives.

Texas at Mets is already over, the visitors winning 5-1. Adrian Beltre hits two singles, passing Al Kaline for 29th in career Hits (3,008) and tying future fellow Ranger HOFer Ivan Rodriguez for 64th in career Singles with 1,910.

Rockies-Indians is over, too, Rox winning 3-2 in 12 innings. Charlie Blackmon opened yesterday's game with a leadoff home run, and virtually ended today's with a two-out game-winning homer in the 12th.

Mike Trout has a flare single, a walk, and an infield single. .348/.469/.713 for the season so far in 302 PAs. He needs exactly 200 PAs to qualify for the league batting championships. The Angels'll have 47 remaining games after today, which means he'll need 4.25 PAs per game and play every single night for the rest of the season to hit the 502 PA minimum. Doesn't look like that's going to happen. Too bad.
   6. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: August 09, 2017 at 05:24 PM (#5510130)
He can still qualify via the theoretical oh-fer even if he comes up just short.
   7. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: August 09, 2017 at 05:26 PM (#5510134)
Angels starter Troy Scribner just smoked Joey Rickard right in the head, on his left temple. Rickard's out of the game, but seemed okay walking off the field. Scribner's reaction was immediate, bending over and hiding his face.

... and Scribner's getting the hook. Kid was clearly shaken, and Scioscia's just gonna pull him after an otherwise very good 5-inning outing.

Is there a limit on that?
   9. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 09, 2017 at 05:28 PM (#5510136)
I think someone must have kidnapped Joe Maddon's brother right before the World Series and has been threatening to kill him if Kyle Hendricks ever pitches into the 6th inning.
   10. Lance Reddick! Lance him! Posted: August 09, 2017 at 05:33 PM (#5510140)

Only a practical limit. Kinda hard to still win the percentage titles if you need to tack on 0-for-70.

Well, he's averaging 4.43 PA/game, so if he plays every game he should make it. In fact he could still miss a couple games and make the 502.

And if he falls short it will probably be only 10-20 PA (assuming no more injuries), and he should still be able to win slugging and on-base titles even taking the oh-fers. BA is probably a lost cause with Altuve hitting .360+, but there are still about 7 weeks to go, so who knows...

Looked like Willson Contreras just suffered a pretty severe hamstring pull running to first for the last out in the top of the 8th. Writhing on the ground in pain and had to be assisted off with a severe limp.
   13. Snowboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 06:25 PM (#5510167)
Willson Contreras leaves the game. Barely able to make it off the field.
I would say badly tore his hamstring about two steps from first base on his 8th inning groundout.

It's looking more and more like the Cubs' post-ASG winning spree was just a listless-cat bounce.

Agreed. I can still see them winning the division, but they're going to get crushed in October if the majority of this season is any indication.

Some of your numbers are off(according to bb-ref) Trout had 306 pa going into todays game, a 4 pa game gives him 310 for the season... there are 47 games left, he needs 192 pa--or in other words--to average 4.08 playing every game to qualify....He's been batting second, last season the average number 2 hitter averaged 4.55 pa per game, so if he gets the average pa that is normal for a number two hitter, that would give him 213 pa if he played everyday, he has a little more wiggle room than you are giving him.... assuming my numbers are correct.

There is about a 50% chance that the Cardinals can end the day at 1.5 games back in the standings, Milwaukee could be 1/2 game back...this division should have been over by July, but nobody wants it.

Ryan Zimmerman HR gives Nationals 1-0 lead over Marlins, passing Tim Wallach for the franchise RBI record (906), while Wallach watches helplessly from the dugout as Marlins bench coach.

Clean-up hitter Didi Gregorius also HRs for Yanks, 3-1.

The Rays starter Odorizzi took a line drive to the foot/ankle and left the game. Two batters later his replacement narrowly avoided getting de-chinned by another liner up the middle.

Still don't get Fowler in center... I mean I do get the politics of the situation, but at the same time, they really need to put a good centerfielder in center, and considering that Fowler is at best, the 5th best defensive outfielder on the Cardinals 40 man roster(Pham, Grichuk, Sierra, Bader are all clearly better)

Get the bullpen up and don't waste a single batter trying to nurse a win for Tanaka.

[edit] And Joe didn't. Good call.
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 08:59 PM (#5510234)
wtf...why would you go home on that play?

Royals up 3-0 men on first and third one out for the Cardinals, pitcher up to bat, he bunts it, and the first baseman goes home....and the runner is safe.... why go home there.... you concede the run and get the easy out.
   28. cardsfanboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 09:03 PM (#5510237)
Matt Carpenter loves facing the Royals... 3-2 right now Royals ahead, but it doesn't seem like that lead is going to hold up at all... (it's of course only the second inning and the Royals are just as likely to score a ton more runs)
   29. cardsfanboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 09:05 PM (#5510240)
I still don't get the Royals decision to not call up Jose Martinez in September(2015)... after a season that he hit .384 in triple a...

Sweet (and nothing less than he deserves).

[edit] For this article on Chad Green's dominant fastball.

I will allow post #20 only because of the sweet irony described therein. Zim is the proverbial "triple short of the cycle" with a walk in his last plate appearance. He ain't gonna get a triple.
   32. cardsfanboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 09:30 PM (#5510248)
That double play sucked ass.... I thought Leake had more speed than that...Cardinals should be up 4-3 right now....

Ryan Zimmerman's having a day.
   34. cardsfanboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 09:46 PM (#5510251)
Good, Jose Martinez punishing the Royals who had no faith in him. Gives the Cardinals a 4-3 lead with his 9th hr of the year.

The Jays Broadcast team must be reading Passan, they announced Bruce to Cle about 10 minutes ago as well.

Yadier joins the list of Cardinals with 14 homeruns this season(Dejong 16, Carpenter 15, Gyorko 15, Molina 14, Pham 14, Fowler 14, Grichuk 14)

I think I might still have a floppy Brewers hat around here somewhere that I got on a promo day at County Stadium. That was a good floppy hat.

   54. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 09, 2017 at 10:52 PM (#5510289)
I checked Grilli - he only made one appearance in 2000, against Atlanta.
   55. cardsfanboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 10:57 PM (#5510293)
It's getting to the point that Dejong needs to be moved out of a top 5 lineup spot. Not that he's struggling(which he is a bit) but that the other players are starting to play to their level.
   56. cardsfanboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 11:03 PM (#5510297)
damnit, we are the home team with a lead, so only one more inning to score two more runs.....
   57. cardsfanboy Posted: August 09, 2017 at 11:31 PM (#5510299)
Looking like a victory for the Cardinals, Cardinals have outscored the opposition 42-15 the past 4 games(or 46-16 past 5)

Bote, how was your weekend in Chicago? I hope you had a good time.

Last week I had a huge, important project dumped in my lap and had to finish up another one, knowing the whole time that I wouldn't have time to breathe this week. I was right :-(

I s-canned the stop at PNC Park on the way here because the forecast called for rain, so that bought me 1 day at home. Then things got even more convoluted so I just blew off the Nats @ Cubs game Saturday. I submitted the product of my unmitigated genius this afternoon in between tasks at the convention I'm attending and helping with this week in Chicago, so I celebrated by taking in the Nats game at Theory, which is a pretty good sports bar, in theory. Although they did have some strange thing on most TVs called "NFL" where large men ran into each other. A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

All of this to say: I was not blowing you off, I simply did not attend the Cubs game Saturday. Maybe next year.
   59. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 10, 2017 at 08:37 AM (#5510343)
Oh, no problem at all - that's not why I was asking. My schedule ended up being completely packed on Sat. and I wasn't in the Wrigley area at all. Never been to Theory, but how the hell are they showing NFL already? Doesn't that stuff not start until, like, October?
