Join Steve Keane in saying goodbye to Shea Stadium, popcorn-filled Mr. Met meg-a-phones…and $1,155 for 4 tickets. ( Musta killed him to sell off that Mr. Met Card Game for that…tis a shame)
I just gave the Skill Sets $1,155 for 4 tickets for each of the seven games of the “SHEA GOOD-BYE” package.
I bought this package out of sheer emotion and nothing to do with whom ever Omar gets to fortify the pitching staff this deal is between me, my wife and kids, and a tenement of a ball park.
I went to Shea with my late father and brothers back in 1964 when believe it or not Shea was a brand new state of the art stadium. Both Ebbits Field and the Polo Grounds were all brick and mortar structures from a bygone time. Shea was all steel and shiny with plenty of parking and access from all the suburbs where the white flight landed.
As a 6 year old kid who just started to fall in love with the concept of hitting and catching and hanging out with the leading men of family, Shea will always hold a big spot in my heart and soul. Sure I ##### and moan about the leaks in the over head pipes and the constrictive leg room in the seats and the world famous puddles of urine, beer and other bodily juices on the men’s room floors but still as much as I anticipate the opening day of $iti Field, the date the bulldozers knock down Shea will leave me weeping.

1. John (You Can Call Me Grandma) Murphy Posted: December 19, 2007 at 12:47 AM (#2649376)I wont weep, but I understand how Keane feels.
I don't have the money to plunk down on that package, but here's hoping there'll still be normal tickets available for the last game at Shea. Even though I currently live in Ohio, I'm willing to pay an exorbitant amount for that ticket and I'll cheerfully complete the eighteen hour round trip to use it.
Should be a solid pen.
I just want to get to one game at Shea so I can say goodbye.
Wise, well, he's better than Mota. The key to this bullpen is getting Sanchez and/or Padilla back.
This was welcome news. Now, to watch some early season and late season Wise tape to determine what happened...
Padilla was non-tendered- not sure he'll be invited to spring training.
As for the total pen,
Wagner/Heilman/Feliciano/Schoeneweis are certainties. Add an effective Wise, with Sanchez ideal and Smith/Sosa as fallback at the 6 spot, and use the loser of the Humber/Pelfrey derby for the fifth spot as the long man.
I don't say this because Mets fans have poor taste or anything; only because they are the only ones who could possibly have good memories of it, as any fan would with their team's ballpark. Were I a Mets fan, I'm sure I would be sad to see it go as well.
But seriously, what a horrendous stain of a stadium.
What do you do with Sosa? He'd be a decent enough swingman but the Mets don't seem to like using any of their relievers to make a spot start.
My gut feeling? Sanchez won't be ready, Smith should spend a year in AAA, and Sosa's your sixth guy. If Sanchez or Smith is lights out, however, no need for Sosa- I try and outright him to AAA. The loser of the fifth spot derby can spot start as long man, with Mulvey ready to take his place if he falters.
