The Hardball Times: JC Bradbury: Scout’s Honor: A Review

JC Bradbury saw Shanks’ redemption?

As firm as Clancy Brown’s furrowed brow…JCB reviews Scout’s Honor by Bill Shanks.

If you are going to try and prove that a book is flawed, it’s a prerequisite to read and understand the content at the center of your attack. Shanks seems to be responding to some caricature reported by Beane’s critics. To so grossly mischaracterize Moneyball is irresponsible. Maybe Moneyball does need a good swift kick in the pants, but Shanks misses so badly that he kicks himself in the face.

Chris: Do you think my quote has anything to do w/the Hudson trade? It was about the rhetoric shift at the site. You're wasting your breath.

Dude, you forgot to cross off Derek Jeter.

J1F,

No... I didn't forget. It's been a long time policy of mine not to discuss politics, religion, religious artifacts or articles of faith at Primer/BTF. Besides, I was trying to stick to 'baseball' subjects... ;-) ...

wow I hate when these Primer threads go ultra-personal. Couple of takes on the matter.

a) If you think someone is arguing for argument's sake, then you can choose to eschew that thread.

b) A poster's identity in no way should affect the subject of his post. We had this argument the other day too. If the only defence you can come up against a post is saying that someone is ##### not to use their real name, or handing out personal insults, then you are conceding your case.

c) This is not me taking sides in the argument, but just stating my opinions. I am none too enamoured by the way Backlasher insults people in his posts while stating his argument. But that is his style.

d) Request to admins : Take post #73 and make a link to it and make it a must read for all future sabermetrics v scouting /"Moneyaball" threads

JC,
there is no "rhetoric shift at the site". You may pick at individuals whom you feel have changed the way they respond, but *I* certainly haven't changed my position.

And if you'll take the time to learn, I have been such a long proponent of defensive value been grossly undervalued by statheads, well, you probably hadn't heard of the internet yet.

Just as you don't want me to ascribe kevin's childish name-changing routine to you, don't ascribe your individuals to "the site". How does that go in the religious/ethical world of yours? Do unto others?
