The Houston Astros Still Have More Pitchers Than Your Favorite Team - The Ringer

The Astros front office has set themselves up for a sustained run. It’s not easy to stock your farm system while winning. As difficult as that is, the toughest thing to do, however, is being disciplined enough not to trade your top prospects to maximize your chances to win **this year**. Of course, getting your championship out the way early reduces the pressure. The Dodgers have a similar vision as the Astros. Without sealing the deal, though, the pressure for the Dodgers to “go for it this year” will keep on building.

Given their success with Morton and that extra spring in Verlander's step, I won't be surprised if the Astros don't miss a step but ...

on paper, Miley, McHugh and Peacock will not have the AL West lineups trembling in fear just yet. Whitley is obviously a top prospect but the other young guys they mention even they describe as falling into the "great fastball, no control, no good 2nd pitch, might be better in the bullpen" category. With that offense it's not gonna matter all that much and those 3 guys should be solid enough.

I missed/forgot the news about McCullers needing TJS. That's a shame. I really thought he was gonna be very good. He's had trouble staying healthy all along, now this. He'll still only be 26 when he's back next year so plenty of time to put together a good career if the arm recovers fully but, by that point, I thought/hoped we'd be looking at 800-900 innings of 125 ERA+ ... instead he'll be sitting on 450/108.

The Houston Astros Still Have More Pitchers Than Your Favorite Team, Especially If Your Favorite Team Is The Tigers, Cuz The Tigers Are Gonna Suck Like Monica Again This Year. Deal With It.

Fixed.

I'm assuming the headline is talking about 'potential quality pitchers'... but even with that caveat, I still am not sure that my favorite team is behind anyone on the pitching train.

McCullers always had one of those "that looks like it hurts" deliveries. Exceptional curveball, fun to watch, but a major injury was predictable.

but a major injury was predictable.

Well, if you predict a major injury for 100 young pitchers, you'll be right about 60 of them within 5 years.
