On my facebook feed, I have the St Louis Writers (BBWAA) feed, and they posted a link to this article and said.

Sean Forman, who started and operates the indispensable research tool, Baseball-Reference.com, would be a strong nominee to receive the Branch Rickey Award for Innovation in the Game of Baseball at the St. Louis Baseball Writers' Dinner.

That would be nice. I go to the dinner every year and it would be nice to see someone like him up there talking for a few minutes.

Hooray for Sean!

From TFA:
The newest project is to flesh out the site’s soccer data. It’s not necessarily a statistic-driven sport, but because of its popularity, Forman decided to make it the company’s next challenge. By 2026, when the World Cup comes to the United States, he hopes Sports-Reference boasts the top soccer site on the Internet.

Forman admits he wasn’t much of a soccer fan before, but he’s now grown interested in the sport, even uncovering this fact: There are more professional soccer clubs in the world (about 20,000) than there are players who have ever played in Major League Baseball (about 18,000).

“I love that stat,” he said.
He’s gone over to the dark side.

An applied mathematics doctoral student at the University of Iowa in the late 1990s, Forman’s thesis centered on trying to predict the three-dimensional folding pattern of a string of amino acids, which form a protein.
I used to subscribe to Protein-Reference.com's Folding Pattern Index, but as I grew up I got more into baseball instead.

I'm afraid it is gray hair. If Sean shaved it, he would look quite youthful and hip with that BB-Ref sweatshirt on.
