I am tempted to cancel my MLB.tv subscription over this. What a load of garbage. Grrr

Would people really rather see another generic cookie cutter park with blue or dark green outfield walls and drab uniforms that are indistinguishable from any other team's uniforms?

No, but there is a huge difference between cookie cutter and the 8-year-old on a pixie stix rush with a box of 32 crayons design the Marlins have implemented. I'm expecting a unicorn to come flying out of that thing in CF.

I hope somehow baseball takes root.

Me too. I might hate the aesthetics of the stadium/logo, but I certainly don't want baseball to fail in south Florida. I am uncomfortable with the fact the organization is ran by a man that probably bathes in Snow Leopard tears, but they can't all be winners.

Grading on a curve of "people who are actually commissioners of major sports leagues" Bud Selig is way above the mean.

This is, of course, because rich people are the worst. But you evaluate your commissioners within the context of the political economy that you have, not the political economy you wish you had.

Agree with the second part.

As to the first part, at some point evil is indistinguishable from repeated bungling.

And the 2d DP of the year! Still not on pace to beat last year's team.

I guess Matheny will continue the Larussian tradition of weirdly time hit and runs.

What the hell?! Reds signed Votto until 2024. That's a silly long commitment.

EDIT: False alarm, the contract only runs through 2023, with an option for 2024. That's alright then...

Francona: "When you hit and run, it makes you concentrate more and can help you break out of a slump."

I'm at a Holiday Inn in Omaha (wearing a pink carnation!), watching the game in my room. I really want to go downstairs to the sports bar just off the lobby, but I KNOW I'll miss the home run monstrosity. The crowd reaction should be priceless, one way or the other.

Then the DP ends that chance. I'm gone!

Hanley was only out by about 20 feet there...he's a born 3B.

Reggie is 7th, Berra is 9th. Carter is 85th. Jeter grades out only very slightly above 0; if it was value above replacement he'd do better.

Francona's prepared with the data, too.

I mean, I haven't run the numbers, but that intentional walk--down by 3, 5th inning, 2 outs, runner on 2nd, Berkman up and Freese on deck--has to be an awful decision tactically. Right?

Probably depends at least partly on Freese's platoon splits, since Berkman is a switch-hitter. But it's likely pretty bad.

And the fact that it "worked" is why managers overuse the IBB - it'll "work" more than half the time (at least with 2 outs).

When asked this exact question, Ozzie responded, "Only Nixon goes to China.", then stomped out of the room.

Brock is #95. Manny is outside the top 100, which kind of surprises me.

Ruth is #25 as a hitter; if you count his pitching value, he's actually ahead of all the other hitters in total value (although not the pitchers). He's not who I'm looking for, though.
