Horrible defense and sloppy relief pitching?

Hold on. deGrom has a "stiff neck," so he and Harvey flip flop: Harvey tonight, deGrom tomorrow afternoon.

I will still be in attendance.

Can anyone recommend a simple and very user friendly i-phone app for MLB scores, schedules, newswire etc?

Do you not just use MLB AtBat? It's been a bit wonky this year but it always seems to be early in the season. I find it to meet all of the above though it's $20 for the year. I don't know if you are looking for free.

The app I use for sports I don't really care about but want to follow is The Score. I don't know how it is for baseball but it keeps me up to date on football, basketball, stuff like that. I imagine it is good enough for baseball and that IS free.

You will not have the pleasure of seeing a 65yearold looking Ben Zobrist playing. He didn't start Wednesday either, so while I wouldn't consider this to mean he's lost his job, at least it seems Maddon is seeing the same thing I am (or he's banged up and they're keeping it quiet), though I have softened my stance since he's such a historically slow starter. You will get to see Almora in person, and his defense is always a pleasure. Heyward is hitting 5th, though, so...

All true, especially the "wonky early in the season" part.

I'm almost certain that your $20 buys you not (only) the app, but streams of all radio broadcasts of all teams, all season long, so you can be driving down the highway in Nebraska while listening to Jawwwwn & Suzyn back in your home town.

First he had minor league scores, now he's added MLB. Not an app but a simple website to run on a phone. I love AtBat but can't use it because I have an older iPhone and at some point MLB required me to have a minimum ios that I can't get on my phone.

I could get a new phone, but F that. My phone works fine. It can do everything it did when I got it. Why should I have to pay for a new one?

It can't run AtBat so obviously it can't do everything it did when you got it. :-)

Seriously how old is your phone that it doesn't run AtBat? I'm with you though. I'm pretty impressed your phone has lasted long enough to get to that point. My experience with phones is that there is a planned obsolescence built in and they die with 2-3 years.

The Nationals have activated Trea Turner, designating Grant Green. Not in line-up tonight:

Adam Eaton CF
Wilmer Difo SS
Bryce Harper RF
Daniel Murphy 2B
Adam Lind 1B
Anthony Rendon 3B
Chris Heisey LF
Jose Lobaton C
Trevor Roark RHP

Werth has a tight groin or something, but red-hot Ryan Zimmerman seems to just be getting a day off. Hmmm.

I held out for almost a year, but eventually the AtBat issue combined with an inability to use Lyft, and then half of my podcasts wouldn't play, and so on. So I finally got a new phone, and boy do I hate the new OS!

To support the capitalist hegemony, you pinko commie!!

I was holding out for a Google Pixel (replacement for their Nexus phone), but widespread reports surfaced of the phone rebooting at random and other more-than-minor problems. I looked into the Samsung Galaxy S8, but it has a locked bootloader so nobody has figured out how to put a custom flavor of Android on it. The power/wake-up button on my ancient, antiquated Galaxy S2 crapped out so now I have to plug in the USB charger to wake it up--if I'm near one--or wait for somebody to call me. First world quandaries, to be sure.

Keith Hernandez was right! Bryce Harper continues his Turn Back the Clock Night with a 2-run homer to deep RCF at Citi Field. 2-0 Nats in the 1st. Harvey plunked Wilmer Difo in the right side of his head, but he popped right back up and appears OK--so far--as he came around to score the first of those 2 runs.

Better yet, you can be driving through regional New South Wales, listening to Pat and Coomer and the Cubs. (I'm kinda stunned how good the coverage was out there, I think it's better than at work (in a populated area). Probably my favorite 21st century moment.

Nice play by Diaz to end the inning. Wainwright isn't getting hit hard, but he's getting hit. Not super sharp right now, his control seems to be there, but the knockout pitch is lacking.

I cannot believe I suggest that they should bunt right there.... Wainwright with his career 9th homerun to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
   44. cardsfanboy Posted: April 21, 2017 at 09:07 PM (#5440082)
Great play by the Brewers third baseman on a tag on Fowler at third, not 100% sure the call on the field was correct, but it was a great play by the Brewers 3rd baseman.

(Fowler was on first, and the ball was hit up the middle the fielder tried to do a glove feed to the shortstop and it failed, and Fowler saw this and kept running, shortstop picks up the ball and throws to third, poor throw, the third baseman makes a leaping catch, swipes at a sliding Fowler and manages to touch his leg to get the out.... Mind you Fowler did a stutter step after rounding second to check the ball, and that probably cost him, but still it was an incredible play by the third baseman to record the out....even if I'm not 100% sure he was out.... I'm about 80% sure he was out, but my Cardinal homerism is telling me to keep checking the replay)
   45. cardsfanboy Posted: April 21, 2017 at 09:16 PM (#5440084)
Wainwright started the inning off by throwing three straight balls to Thames, he then proceeded to strike him out, and the next two batters, he's starting to find his rhythm... (I hope)

Cardinals broadcast is talking about Willie Mcgee, and game three of the World Series has to be one of the examples of a singular great performance.... 2 homeruns, and a robbed homerun of Gorman Thomas...(Willie really should have been the 1982 World Series MVP)
   49. cardsfanboy Posted: April 21, 2017 at 09:26 PM (#5440091)
Wainwright with another rbi..... bases loaded single scoring two runs.... Cardinals are up 5-1, Wainwright has 4 rbi.
   50. cardsfanboy Posted: April 21, 2017 at 09:28 PM (#5440092)
For the record, that was a good pitch to Wainwright that he managed to pull over the third baseman head.... but there was no way to expect that pitch(low and outside to a right handed batter) to end up where it did(pulled over the third baseman head, where the left fielder had to range towards the line to cut it off)

Wong gets toasted at the plate by a fly out to left field that Wong should have easily scored, but because the throw pulled the catcher into the path, the catcher was allowed to block the plate...

mind you, I don't think the catcher actually ever tagged him.
   53. cardsfanboy Posted: April 21, 2017 at 09:31 PM (#5440096)
okay, he was never, ever tagged on that play.... There is no way they could rule him out.

Put him on third then.
   56. cardsfanboy Posted: April 21, 2017 at 09:41 PM (#5440101)
Put him on third then.

Lol...

I don't know if you saw the play or not, but Wong was on third, and there was a flyout and the throw to the catcher caused him to move up the line effectively blocking Wong's access to home plate, the catcher catches the ball... wong runs into him lightly, flips over him and then finds the plate with his hand.... meanwhile the catcher catches the ball...allows Wong to flip over him, rolls onto his back like a turtle....and never makes a tag...well he tags Wong about a second or so after Wong touched the plate.... and the ump called Wong out.... So the Cardinals of course ask for a review... and initially I'm thinking it's because he was blocking the lane(there was no lane for Wong) but it turned out to be did he get tagged, it took one replay to see that Wong was never tagged... sure he hit the catcher, the catcher hit him, the catcher had the ball in his glove, but the glove was no where near Wong.... so blocking the lane wasn't even the issue, it was whether a tag was applied, and it never was.

Note: I don't fault the ump for this, because in real time it's tough to see this stuff, this is the type of play replay was made for.... yet they still failed and took over 2 minutes to make a decision that was pretty clear within a minute of replays.

   67. cardsfanboy Posted: April 21, 2017 at 10:05 PM (#5440120)
Wainwright is at 100 pitches, so he'll probably just pitch the 6th and be done for the night. He's capable of 120 pitches, but why go more than that when leading 6-2???

Oof. Pedroia being helped off after being spiked in the calf by Machado on a force play. They've already hit for Marco Hernandez and Holt is on the DL with vertigo so Pablo Sandoval moves to second base who has never played third base is now doing just that.

It's the equivalent of a high stick in hockey. I don't think Machado meant to do it but he has to control himself better there. You can't have your spikes up. In fairness he immediately hopped up and was clearly apologetic. It's one of those that might get him thrown at tomorrow as a protect your guy thing.

Farrell is livid asking for the DP which I don't think would be the right call but it's what I want my manager doing, defending his player.

Top 3 pitcher names : Abad, Balfour and Feierabend.

Nothing against Peralta, but his "injury" helps define the team, Gyorko will now be the everyday third baseman for a week or two, and Wong will be the starting second baseman(with an occasional day off for Garcia)...this makes everyone in St Louis happy, as you have the retards at Viva el birdos and Redbird rant happy because now Wong is playing everyday(in their opinion the Cardinals have no chance of competing this year, especially if Matheny is the manager, so Wong and Grichuk should play everyday regardless of matchups or actual performance) and you have Gyorko playing everyday, a guy who hasn't actually done anything to lose a starting job, except to be the guy that the team didn't project to be the starter.

Abad is the guy who threw at Manny twice during the game where Manny threw his bat. He was ejected but not suspended for some reason. I guess Manny being a bigger idiot absolved him of his sins.

Unsurprisingly, this completely misrepresents what went on in that A's-O's series three years ago.

You knew that Harper was going to do something really good for the Nationals.

Jose, I was watching the Caps go up 3-2 in the series, so I missed most of the game, but 0-9 with RISP is always painful to watch. Red Sox should have their chances tomorrow against an unheralded rookie making his first major league start.

That's only the 3rd time since the O's have been in Baltimore that they've won 3 straight games where they've scored 2 or fewer runs.

Who is pitching for the O's? With Wright for the Sox if it's spinning again there could be some runs on the board.

God I love watching Bryce Harper play baseball. Dude just goes full speed all the time.

Plawecki is pretty terrible at everything. He's horrible defensively.

Awesome slide to third by Harper ... first thought was OUT, but replay proves my sorry old eyes wrong. Still... GO METS !

Familia sucks !

Jayson Acquino, who's yet to give up a run in his 3 games in the Majors.

I'll let Paul Harvey tell you the rest of the story.

Can't imagine Collins wanted to use Familia tonight.
