HOW WILL THE RED SUCKS NOT score IN any INNING TOnight ?

Some terrible base running from the Phillies. 1st and 3rd, one out. Chopper to third, runner breaks home, throw goes home and he's stuck in a rundown. While he's being chased back to third, Odubel Herrera takes off from second to third and arrives about the same time as the ball does. He's tagged out and the lead runner is still in the rundown.

edit: the lead runner, Hoskins, also froze for no reason at the start instead of just running at the catcher. He might have made it.

The Red Sucks have paid in full, the opponents and umpires. $War

And that was the worst baserunning in the history of the game!

Who'd believe that after this year Yadier Molina would have as many .800-plus OPS seasons as Buster Posey?

Wow, that was an extremely poorly played ball by Herrera.

Buster Posey just sucks.

Red Sucks plead the fifth.

No one who looks at the actual stats. Even if you give him credit for this yet-to-be-completed season, Molina has 4 years with an OPS above .800. Posey has 6 such seasons, and leads career OPS .844 to .743, and OPS+ 133 to 99.

Ponce deleon allowed his first major league hit, a grand slam to Arenado.
   13. phredbird Posted: July 30, 2018 at 09:49 PM (#5718245)
what's worse, he had just thrown strike three to the previous batter with two outs only to not get the call and walk the bases loaded.

My bad.

I did a PI search for catchers' seasons with .800+ OPS, but I set the games caught at =>100 to weed out the partial seasons or players who weren't full-time catchers. Apparently in a couple of Posey's .800-OPS seasons he caught fewer than 100 games.

jedd gyorko with another home run with nobody on. in my limited experience i don't think i've ever seen him hit a home run with runners on base.

rally killer! :-)

Not so sure it was a strike---definitely out of the zone, and I don't know that the batter swung. Close, but I wasn't surprised that it wasn't deemed a strike.
   17. phredbird Posted: July 30, 2018 at 09:56 PM (#5718253)
disagree, it was a strike. it caught the inside, but yadi was set up outside and so he had to reach for it. it hit the zone.

but it was close.
   18. salvomania Posted: July 30, 2018 at 09:59 PM (#5718254)
WEnt back and looked at the sequence, and that ball 4 just wasn't a swing. Howver, the pitch on 1-2 was definitely in the strike zone, but Molina was set up outside, and caught the ball reaching over to the inside edge of the plate, and Ponce didn't get the call. The inning shouldve ended right there.

EDIT: OK, we're talking about the same pitch. I thought yiu were saying that Desmond's twitch at ball 4 was a swing.
   19. phredbird Posted: July 30, 2018 at 10:01 PM (#5718256)
that is what i just said.

i was referring to the 1-2 pitch. i should have added that poncedeleon lost the batter over the next couple of pitches when the inning shoulda been over.

hug it out, bro!
   20. phredbird Posted: July 30, 2018 at 10:04 PM (#5718257)
oh jesus ...

cards melting down ...

maybe this wild pitch/score will get reversed.
   21. phredbird Posted: July 30, 2018 at 10:06 PM (#5718259)
oh brother.

did they blow that? it looked like poncedeleon missed the tag, but the call was overturned.

i think that guy was safe, but i guess we'll take it.
   22. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5718262)
It looked to me like he tagged him, if a guy can get a hbp when a ball touches the uniform, then that definitely qualifies as a hit by glove.
   23. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2018 at 10:35 PM (#5718271)
Rockies pitcher goes 6 innings without a walk, promptly walks three batters in the 7th.
   24. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2018 at 10:40 PM (#5718274)
Reliever gets a full count strikeout, and then walks in a run, 4-2 Cardinals with one out, bases loaded, and Jose Martinez up to bat.... Cardinals have yet to put a ball in play this inning.
   25. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2018 at 10:41 PM (#5718275)
solid play by Arenado to get the runner at the plate.

Does anyone actually believe the Phillies are going to score here, or that they're going to win the game?

EDIT: That was written just before the third out.
   28. villageidiom Posted: July 30, 2018 at 11:15 PM (#5718287)
About damn time.

Told ya. The Red Sox NEVER lose games like this.
   30. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: July 30, 2018 at 11:16 PM (#5718290)
Woohoo, the focus of Jose's mancrush wins it.

Another one in the books.
   31. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: July 30, 2018 at 11:19 PM (#5718292)
Betts, Benni, JD and Mitch went 0 for 18 with one BB. That won't happen very often and it's real nice to pull out a game like this.
   32. cardsfanboy Posted: July 30, 2018 at 11:51 PM (#5718312)
Cardinals with their 8th walkoff of the season. At least they can do one thing right.

SFG has 8 (at the start of the night)

Good teams Bos-3, Chc-4, LAD-1, don't generally need to wait that long to get a win though.
   33. phredbird Posted: July 30, 2018 at 11:54 PM (#5718313)
cards win!

Hugh - 0 for 23 from the top five, don’t forget Xander.

Blake Swihart is wonderful.

Ian Kinsler is Red Sox. Hard throwing minor leaguers (both AAA) Williams Jerez and Ty Buttrey to the Halos.
