(The joke is that CC Sabathia is fat)

Chapman just came in to pitch, after CC pitched 7 innings, and called out the repair crew to fix the mound.

The insiders' joke is that CC is in his road uniform, so that Girardi obviously has no control over when that mound goes next.

The mound is not a True Yankee.

Or maybe it's that he has brutal farts.

I don't get it. Can someone explain the joke to me?

Edit: Oh I didn't see #1, thanks!

This might be the platonic ideal of "why does the Onion feel the need to add a paragraph of text underneath its headlines?"

Take my wife... please. Because while you made the typical assumption that I was colloquially referring to my wife's propensity for doing or saying something, which would have represented a logical extension from my immediately previous discussion, this is not so. I was actually asking to be rid of her, because I no longer wish to continue a marriage which has ceased to be pleasurable.

Oh!!! I get that one now.

If you don't get the joke right away, "grueling" helps push you into understanding. It's a "writer's trick".
