1. Walt Davis Posted: July 17, 2008 at 05:59 AM (#2861969)I interviewed Jocko (and Jerry Izenberg) several years ago regarding Negro leagues ball in Newark. While I expected Jerry, the dean of New Jersey sportswriters, to be informative and riveting (and he was), I had no idea what to expect from Jocko. He turned out to have an encyclopedic knowledge of black sports in general, not just the topic we were supposed to talk about. It was one of those interviews that went on much longer than it needed to, but every minute was important.
As I write this I'm looking at a picture of Monte Irvin, who is thankfully still with us, and sadly thinking about all those folks I met from the '30s and '40s who, like Jocko, are no longer with us.
True, but the media usually uses the term. In an effort to enhance their own status, they readily sacrifice accuracy. Happens in a lot of other contexts, too.
That's Andy Dick's job.
