The Title Defense Dies in Game 6 of the World Series

Not all Phillies fans a bitter, even though they want to be.

If I learned anything in winning the World Series last season, it taught me nothing about how to deal with losing one.  Watching a season slip away after coming so close spawned some emotions that I have never dealt with as a Phillies fan.  It takes everything I have to fight off the bitter and spiteful hatred I have for the Yankees right now and congratulate them on definitively being the best team in baseball.

So ends the best two-year stretch in Phillies history. A third straight pennant, although unlikely, isn't beyond the realm of possibility if they get a consistent closer and one more starter.

Frankly I'm impressed the 2009 Phillies got as far as Game 6 of the World Series without anything resembling a bullpen or bench. If they can hold on to Lee and buy an ace reliever -- or even just two very good closers -- they should continue to be a force.

Another thing: The 1993 Phillies followed up with a couple of seasons with everybody on the DL. They're going to have to remain healthy in '10.

Most Phillies fans over the age of 30 have dealt with those emotions for years and years.

I don't know that the Phillies need to add much of anything to compete for another title.

On the pitching front, a staff fronted by Cliff Lee for a full year, Happ, Blanton and Hamels, is more than competitive. With a better year from Rollins on the offensive side, and some patching in the pen, they'll be in it again.

And don't forget Kendrick and Drabek. If the Phils can get 130 starts from those six, they'll win.

Having bloggers who don't link to their own #### might help.

Might help you. Don't think the Phillies really give a shit, though.

As a Cubs fan, let me give a friendly "F*****ck you!" to all you Phillies fans who are emotionally distraught over not winning a second World Series in a row. I am playing the world's tiniest violin for you, and in as sarcastic a way possible.

I think the only repeat WC from the NL have been the Cubs 07-08, Gi'nts 21-22 and Big Red Machine 75-76. So realistically....
