1. The elusive Robert Denby Posted: May 09, 2012 at 02:27 PM (#4127485)For what it's worth I've been to a couple of these events in Boston and they are a ton of fun. Little baseball, lot of music, you really can't go wrong.
Also my cousin's husband is a Deelinquent so we got to go backstage. Mike O'Malley is awfully impressed with himself and Kevin Youkilis checked out my cousin.
What, they couldn't have sprung for Brian Doyle-Murray?
Shouldn't he be? I love the man but there is no tangible reason he should be famous. Damn impressive if you ask me.
Well, there's the Pumpkings... I guess I'm not up on who Billy Corgan has imported to piss off next (perhaps they're not local)... but yeah - I agree... and heck, if it's not Pitchfork: Wrigleyville, but more like Lollapalooza: Wrigleyville -- there's lot of choices from yesteryear... Urge Overkill, Liz Phair, Plain White Ts, Wilco... and I thought it was a requirement that Cheap Trick be at least invited to all local music fests (and if it's not, it should be, even if they're technically a Rockford band).
Maybe Billy Corgan will be frying James Iha in effigy?
This should be an Illinois state law.
- The Men
- Joan of Arc/Cap'n Jazz/Owen/Maritime/Promise Ring
- Andrew Bird
- The Sea & Cake
They would all be welcome inclusions.
Favorite places to see a show in Chicago:
1. Empty Bottle
2. Schubas
3. Subterranean
4. Lincoln Hall
5. Metro
6. The Vic
7. Aragon/Congress
At least a couple of them perform occasionally with Jake Burns, former frontman of Stiff Little Fingers, under the name "The Nefarious Fat Cats."

No Park West? That place is fantastic. And the Congress is godawful. Uncomfortable, nowhere to sit, crappy sound. I'll second the praises for Lincoln Hall, and I'll probably get kicked out of the Good Chicagoans Society for admitting that I've never been to the Empty Bottle.
Reggie's would be on my list of favorites as well. Also the Double Door. And the Abbey.
I've been to each of Park West (Colin Meloy solo show), Double Door (Pipettes) & Abbey Pub (Chris Thile I think) only once; they're all OK, I like them better than the larger Vic/Congress/Aragon places. I haven't been to Reggies.
No kidding, Gern. Even I've been to the Empty Bottle, and I've only been to something like a half dozen shows here in town.
Obligatory disclaimer: Peter Gammons is ,of course, not a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.He is a member of the Aging Baby Boomers who like that Rock 'n Roll Music, a much larger group.
Who knows? His babip is off the charts right now. That will come down, and he is striking out a little more than one might like. The good things are that he's going deep in counts even when he doesn't walk, and he is unafraid to go the opposite way. Both will suit him well when the rest of the NL figures out "Hey, Soriano is on deck. Why the heck are we pitching to this guy?"
Ditto--not sure how I forgot to mention it yesterday.
Though I have to say, the logistics for their annual block party are terrible (at least, they were last year). 2 beer lines and 1 set of portajohns for a good-sized open air festival? Give me a break.
These days, Joel is the #2 Murray.
I miss living in the city.

It's at the Metro and the Cubs are involved, I'm pretty sure Billy Corgan is contractually obligated to be involved.
