Let's go Yankees, put some pressure on the Red Sucks. They feel safe and sound, but can still be pushed off the AL EAST throne !

I have a couple of questions... that Bote (bodee), is that the player you always meant, boteman ?
Are you, Bote Man is no David, that Nats fan boteman who always goes to sportsbars to watch the Nats lose ?

#### Kozma !

Wasted a leadoff triple in the 1st inning and Olson missed a walk off homer by a foot. Still got the series win.

FOOKIN BASTARDS!!!!

Acuna going for a 4th straight game with a leadoff homer and the pitcher nails him in the elbow on the first pitch.

Dugouts empty.

Is Wilson Ramos supposed to be bad at pitch framing? There have been several close pitches that went against the Phillie pitcher that he caught a bit awkwardly that probably cost them.
   13. TomH Posted: August 15, 2018 at 08:16 PM (#5727522)
Last night, the Orioles only struck out twice as a team. I wonder if that could be a low mark for them this season.
   14. Howie Menckel Posted: August 15, 2018 at 08:16 PM (#5727523)
Urena tossed after throwing ONE pitch.

Umps waited a moment, not expecting that would escalate so quickly - then, the heave ho and warnings to both benches.

The next time the Dodgers play the Marlins, Mattingly will be forced to try to turn a double play at second base while Chase Utley barrels down going "old school" on him. hijinks will ensue.
   15. TomH Posted: August 15, 2018 at 08:17 PM (#5727524)
TRIVIA for tonight:
In last year's fine post-season run, the Dodgers played 15 games (3 NLDS, 5 NLCS, 7 WS).
In how many of those games did Dodger opponents hit at least one home run?

yes it was, they had 3 strikeouts in a game 6 times this year, but two only once.

I guess I was unclear. The escalation was that the Marlins decided to go nuclear on the first pitch, and I don't think they expected that. I guess with Mattingly as MGR, maybe they should have. But nothing happened after the pitch other than Urena getting tossed and each dugout getting a warning.

Per MLB rules, because Acuna's only plate appearance resulted in him being hit by a pitch, his home run streaks will be intact when he returns to action.

.............

Red Sox are 28-2 this season in games started by catcher Sandy Leon, which is amazi.... wait, I think that matches their overall winning percentage so never mind.

It certainly isn't personal ... just think of him as a non-political Joey B. with an extra helping of online Tourette's.

George Costanza: You have no idea of the magnitude of this thing. If [Susan] is allowed to infiltrate this world, then George Costanza, as you know him, ceases to exist! You see, right now, I have Relationship George, but there is also Independent George. That's the George you know, the George you grew up with - Movie George, Coffee shop George, Liar George, Bawdy George.

Jerry Seinfeld: I love that George.

George Costanza: Me Too! And he's dying, Jerry! If Relationship George walks through this door, he will kill Independent George! A George, divided against itself, cannot stand!

...............

Wilson Ramos, who likely is considering naming his next kid "DL," comes off said list today. 3-3, he leads off the 6th and hits one into the gap for a double. wait, the ball gets away so Ramos figures, what the heck, let me take these newly-healed hamstrings for a test drive. he narrowly gets a triple - so now the one he got in 2011 and this one gives him two for his MLB career.

first game with his new team, the Phillies, but dumb on so many levels

Wilson Ramos is 2 for 3 in his first Phillies start
Justin Bour is 2 for 4 in his first Phillies start. Announcers marvel at his lack of batting gloves. He's like Jason Kendall plus 80 pounds! Is it that uncommon to not wear batting gloves? I can't remember the last Phillie who did it.

   57. cardsfanboy Posted: August 15, 2018 at 10:27 PM (#5727596)
Well it was a nice couple of days, where the Cardinal announcers didn't spend every ####### minute pretending that Shildt is completely different than Matheny, but now they are back onto their worshipping ways.. uggh, people are up because they are winning, this isn't about Shildt, his bullpen management is still crappy, but the Cardinal announcers for some reason are railing on how much different this team is, it's not. It's the same ####### team playing to their ability, whether you want to blame that on Matheny or not is one thing, but this bs about the attitude is different etc.... is utter bs. This team had almost all of their come from behind victories under Matheny etc...

The difference is that we have replaced the bullpen with a bunch of younger pitchers.... Fowler got injured so that we can play Bader more, Dejong returned and Ozuna started hitting. This isn't about management, it's about the players doing what they are capable of doing while returning to health.
   58. cardsfanboy Posted: August 15, 2018 at 10:28 PM (#5727597)
And I don't even have a problem giving credit to shildt, most teams that fire their managers in season see a jump in performance, it's just the fact that in a 3 hour broadcast, 2 hours and 55 minutes is dedicated to the shrine of aggressive baseball(which I still haven't ####### seen to be honest) and great defense (which is just Bader, Wong and Dejong something that shildt doesn't have any control over other than they have returned to the lineup)

   60. phredbird Posted: August 15, 2018 at 11:09 PM (#5727619)
yeah, this fellating of shildt is getting old. he's 'done it with limited time'? cripes.

the first thing i noticed at the beginning of the game was that the infield was gyorko - dejong - wong - carpenter.

and all of those guys are finally healthy and producing at the same time.

it's called good timing, and shildt had little control over it.

of course, now carpenter takes a nasty pitch on the top of his hand. the word is xrays are negative, but if it affects his swing, this could be bad news.
   61. phredbird Posted: August 15, 2018 at 11:11 PM (#5727620)

shocking (not) that the Dodgers are 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th with 1st and 2nd 2 out and - the PH is Kenta Maeda. that didn't end well.

Roberts was only one of several managers in the last two World Series who soiled the bed in what seemed like attempts to make the result seem to be all about them.

Roberts strikes me as a good manager of the "team culture" - but hire someone else to manage the roster and RP decisions. he just doesn't get it, and I doubt that this game will change anything.
