This MLB hate map confirms everyone detests the Yankees

George Steinbrenner’s American Shiit Building Company is now a world wide success!

Hate maps are back folks, this time with the much-anticipated MLB edition. Unlike the regional wars that fuel the NFL there’s a pretty clear delineation here: Almost everyone hates the Yankees.

Florida hates the Red Sox: This is wonderful because you can guarantee this is purely based on New York retirees heading to the Sunshine State.
Arkansas has strong feelings about the Cubs: Honestly, it’s just nice to see anyone have strong feelings about the Cubs.
What the heck did the Dodgers do to Oceania? The MLB season kicked off in Sydney between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks this year, you’d think there would be some fondness. Hell no. Something happened down under to breed a hotbed of Dodger hatred. The entire world can rarely agree on anything, but it seems they’re united in hating the Yankees—then friggin’ Oceania ruined it all.

Nunavut must be filled with fine people. Anybody who hates the White Sox can't be all bad.

Well, they had Greinke say “I would say there is absolutely zero excitement for it, There just isn’t any excitement to it. I can’t think of one reason to be excited for it.”

I can understand how that would upset Australians - and since most there aren't familiar with MLB, by default that would make the Dodgers the team to hate there.

I am disappointed that Antarcticans don't hate the Yankees with the same zeal of any other right-thinking peoples.

I guess that the Nationals can be officially deemed the Braves' archrival, given their "leader" status in Alabama, Georgia & South Carolina.

Apparently Atlanta Braves fans hate whichever other team happens to be in first place in their division. Either that or Sam happened to be the only Brave fan who took part in the pole.

I think there has been a rather strong rivalry brewing over the last decade between the Red Sox and Rays. That's a big part of it, too.

I'm going to assume Missouri went to the Red Sox because of a slightly higher proportion of Yankees-hate in the western half getting swamped by the bitter feelings from 2004 and 2013 in the eastern half.

Louisiana? Boston didn't have Guidry or Pettitte, and let Papelbon go. Or are Louisianans incensed because of the anti-Popeye's crusade the team went on after 2011?

What the heck did the Dodgers do to Oceania?
Hell, even California hates the Dodgers.

The map confused the heck out of me for a second when I saw that Texas's most-hated team included the letters ANGE, until I figured out that it wasn't the Rangers.

I definitely feel like my hate for the Yankees has subsided. Part of that is that they just aren't that dominant any more. The main thing is that it used to be fun to hate their fans when they were bombastic and arrogant, but now they all seem to be weird and deeply paranoid. I think Yankees fans dislike their team more than I do. Its like watching a relative you don't like develop dementia.

Throw an "I" into that and you have AINGE, one of the most disliked basketball players for many years.

Come to think of it - Danny probably wasn't real popular when he played baseball in Toronto, either.

Does someone get extra points for being disliked in multiple sports?

. . . [Yankee fans] were bombastic and arrogant, but now they all seem to be weird . . .

The White Sox are the team that I hate; it's the Yankee fans and Red Sox fans that I can't stand.

Yankee fans seem to think that fans of other teams want the Yankees to be good because baseball is better when the Yankees are good.

Red Sox fans seem to think that everyone is a fan of their own team and also a fan of the Red Sox.

No, you're wrong. Most Australians actually have a TV and satellites even bring us signals and stuff. Most of us do actually know how baseball works. It's like cricket, but it isn't! There is a national league and it's pretty easy to find it around as a summer sport for kids in all states.

Greinke, though suffering from Aspergers or something is prone to being..well quite frank. In this instance he was just downright insulting and you'd think the PR people would have at least tried to contain his tendencies. Australia is a half decent place to both live and visit and yeah, the people of Sydney were like, who the f*ck is this guy anyway. It wouldn't have been that hard for him to simply say the trip conflicted with his training, blah, blah, blah or some such. It's not as if they were sending them to Sierra Leone or something.

As for the Yankees, I just don't care. Their relevancy as a potent force has diminished like a 90 year old man's sex drive. Also I'd rather spend my time following my team and other players I like to watch like Trout, McCutchen, Kershaw, Stanton, Cabrera then hating on about another team.

...like Red Sox fans pre-2004.
Yankee fans seem to think that fans of other teams want the Yankees to be good because baseball is better when the Yankees are good.
I don't see this, but I did see that kind of thing with many NY baseball fans ahead of the 2000 World Series. Haven't heard it since.
Red Sox fans seem to think that everyone is a fan of their own team and also a fan of the Red Sox.
No. I think they think fans of other teams want the Red Sox to be good because baseball is better when the Yankees aren't winning constantly. In reality, fans of other teams were OK with the Red Sox finally winning in 2004 (even if they weren't rooting for them), but were hoping it would finally get Red Sox fans to shut up and go away, and it's only gotten worse.
   25. crict Posted: August 04, 2014 at 06:55 PM (#4764308)
Really surprised to see the Red Sox as the most hated team in Quebec. Their fans were kind of jerks in the interleague series in Montreal, but that's a long time ago. Otherwise, because of Pedro, I thought that Expos fans kinda liked the Red Sox.

Marlins should have been the choice because of Loria.
   26. Random Transaction Generator Posted: August 04, 2014 at 07:20 PM (#4764326)
The only reason I (a Jays fan) don't like a team right now (Red Sox) is because of their manager (#### John Farrell!).
I've cheered for the Red Sox (2004), I've cheered for the Yankees (2009), I've cheered for the Rays (2008), and I've cheered for the Orioles (2012).
I've also cheered for the Tigers, Angels, Rangers, Cardinals, and Giants at some point recently.

This has to be entirely due to Ranger fans. Astro fans haven't had time to build animosity toward any AL West teams. Hell, I don't think any AL team will ever top the Dodgers and Reds on my "don't like" list. Of course that goes back a long way for old guys like me. Steve Garvey and Pete Rose, ugh.

Both NWT and Nunavut have to be N=1. A Dodger fan who focused his hatred south rather than towards SF, and a Cubs fan.

Alternately, twin brothers who picked SD and CWS as their favorite teams randomly as youths. And they hate each other so much that one moved across the border. They live their sporting lives in bitter schadenfreude with each Everth Cabrera strikeout and John Danks gopherball.

I'd never even heard of Nunavut until this past weekend - it was featured on the side of the U-Haul truck that my girlfriend rented to move some stuff. Apparently (according to the side of the U-Haul), around 2,000 years ago, the natives built these stone monuments called [can't remember], the purpose of which was to [didn't visit the web site to find out]. As someone who thinks they have a decent knowledge of geography, and has lived in the United States for 44 years, I was pretty shocked to realize there was an entire Canadian province I had never heard of before.

I hate the: Giants, Yankees, and Red Sox.

Who the hell moves to Nunavut?

And in your meager defense, it wasn't a territory for most of your 44 years.

As for the thread, Red Sox fans who start to lose some of their Yankee hate make me very sad. It's just what they want.

   39. Omineca Greg Posted: August 05, 2014 at 11:55 AM (#4764645)
You can't get to Nunavut by road. Maybe one day, but for now Nunavut is beyond the domain of U-Haul. They are just exploiting the glamour of Nunavut for their own commercial purposes. It happens.

Many people move to Nunavut. The pay can be very lucrative. It is insanely expensive though, as U-Hauls, or any other trucks for that matter, can't go there so everything is brought in by plane (it makes the Cheeze Whiz a costly luxury) or by boat during the time the ocean isn't frozen. Musk Ox is much cheaper at the Co-op than it is at Piggly Wiggly, so if you eat enough musk ox, you can really close the expense gap As long as you don't like Cheeze Whiz with your musk ok. If you do, you're still screwed.

Only because it's so far away from US Cellular Field.

Why do the people of Arkansas hate the Cubs. Why does anybody hate the Cubs. Maybe there are a large number of Cards fans there, but even Missouri hates the Red Sox more. Another thing that amuses me is that in the middle of all the Yankee hatred the people of Wyoming are united in their hatred of the Cards.

Why do the people of Arkansas hate the Cubs.

Probably because the Cards' AA affiliate was in Little Rock from 1966-2000.
