Thom Brennaman says he’ll broadcast ‘multiple’ games with his HOF dad on the radio this season

RETURN OF THE BRENNAMANSTER! (flee good people…flee!)

Bren

All the Reds trades to bolster the roster sure are nice, but here’s another reason for Reds fans to smile about the upcoming season:

Thom Brennaman promises that he’ll do some games on radio this year with his father, Marty Brennaman. They didn’t do any last year.

“Yes! Write it down in your notebook! We will do multiple games,” said Thom during a “Reds Hot Stove League” commercial break with his father Tuesday at the Holy Grail downtown.

The more he talked, the more he promised.

“I’m hoping we’ll get a chance to do three or four series together on radio,” Thom said.

I'm no fan of Brennaman but that's nice. It sounds like something that would be a real thrill for both of them.

My dad's a Hall of Fame dad too.

Mine isn't, but Mom is inner circle.

I don't want to know about your Mom's inner circle.

This is great news, because it means that I'll be able to watch at least a few games that don't involve the grouchy pontifications of the Brennamans.

#4 I simultaneously laughed and was offended (then got over it quickly). Nice.

I remember when Todd Kalas worked for the Mets, they let him do a few innings with his dad Harry when the Phillies played a late-season series at Shea.

Hopefully this means fewer games for Brantley, not more games on TV.

Everybody already knows too much about your mom's inner circle.

I wonder which Brennaman will be more pompous when they are in the booth together/

I love this, since I only get them on cable, not radio, that means no Thom on TV, YAY!

That just sounds terrible.

And I'll bet somehow the name of Adam Dunn comes up.

They'll be in the same booth together, at the same time? Can you say drone strike?

I know that people will find this hard to believe but there was actually a time when Marty Brennaman wasn't a pompous d-bag on the radio. This was a good many years ago but anyway good for him that he and Thom will get to work together (not that I will listen).

Marty was pretty tolerable in 1990 too. I wonder if there's a correlation there.

OTOH, I could see myself getting pretty jaded at some of the Reds descents into mediocrity.

What a wonderful display of nepotism.

Marty's always had a deep love for the sound of his own voice, but winning the Frick award was what really fired him up. In the rare moments he's not preaching the Gospel According to St. Martin he can still do some fine PBP, but ever since Cooperstown called he's been insufferable.

That just sounds terrible.

So does your mom's inner circle.

Can we get paternity tests on Thom Brennaman, Joe Buck, and Chip Carey? None of them is a patch on their old man (and in Chip's case, grandad either).

And I grew up on Reds on Radio, with Marty and Joe, and yes, back in the '70s and '80s, Marty was a first-class play-by-play man. The Frick Award turned him into the Pope.
