Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera, Giants catcher Buster Posey win Aaron Award | MLB.com: News

Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers and Buster Posey of the Giants paused from their Game 3 preparations on Saturday at Comerica Park to accept the Hank Aaron Award as the outstanding offensive performer in their respective leagues—the first time in the presentation’s history that both winners were participating in the World Series.

Now the question is whether they also will become the first pair of Hank Aaron Award winners to subsequently win their respective leagues’ Most Valuable Player Award in the same year. Both players also are candidates for those trophies when the Baseball Writers’ Association of America makes those announcements on Nov. 15.

Didn't the MVP and Cy Young used to get announced during the playoffs?

I think they haven't announced the MVP before/during the playoffs since 1925 AL MVP Roger Peckinpaugh made 8 errors in the subsequent World Series; it was thought that the award might have put undue pressure on him.

The Cy Young, I'm not sure on, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's always been done the same way.

Hmm... I thought I remembered it, but maybe not.

Well, it looks like they got this one right...

Was Posey really the best hitter in the NL? He was almost certainly the best player, but I doubt he was the best pure bat. Ryan Braun was a better hitter, wasn't he?

Braun led the league in OPS, but Posey led in OPS+ (in 6 fewer games) and WAR batting runs. At the very least Posey was a defensible choice.

The Cy Young awards will be announced Nov 14, the MVPs Nov 15; is that later than usual?

(When answering, please use "the start of the World Series" as the benchmark, rather than the raw date.)

The Hank Aaron Award isn't a "choice," is it? I'm under the impression that it's based on a formula like the Rolaids Relief Award.
