Tigers’ Wood nearly lost finger in crossbow misshap

Manager Ron Gardenhire couldn’t resist.

When he found out that left-hander Travis Wood had nearly split the index finger on his right hand in two in a crossbow malfunction, he quipped, “He’s got a split-finger pitch now.”

I read this as "Tiger Woods", not "Tigers' Wood". I'm sure that was intentional.

Huh, I didn't realize Wood had signed with Detroit. From his Cubs days, if I had to pick one MLB player who was most likely to nearly lose his finger in a crossbow mishap, it would probably have been him.

Cashner cut himself with a hunting knife. One player once, I forget who, injured himself lugging deer meat.

I thought this was one of those Dugout 1918 throwback headlines.

Clint Barmes. That always seemed like a really suspect and oddly specific explanation to me, but maybe it's legit.

Clint Barmes? while with the Rockies

Concur with 1 and 9. My first thought was, what does Tiger Woods have to do with baseball?

lugging deer meat

An activity, I must admit, that I am happy to say I have never participated in.

You and your other elementary school aged siblings never had to drag a freshly killed deer carcass across a few hundred yards of sagebrush to your family's suburban? Man, what kind of sheltered childhood did you all have?

Shortly after the Phillies traded Carlton Loewer to the Padres he broke his leg in two places falling out of a hunting blind. This basically ended his career at 26. And he is now a... professional hunting guide in Wyoming.

Steve Trout once hurt himself falling off a stationary bike. Knowing Trout he was probably trying to get away from a stuffed bear.

There's Jose Cardenal's eyelids but I'm pretty sure he was just joking.

A former boss got charged off an embankment by a cow, had to be helicoptered to the hospital.

Wood got 2/$12 last year and was traded (with the Royals picking up pretty much everything) to the Padres then released. Cots says he's in Detroit on a minor-league deal.

They might be better off having Tiger Woods as a NRI.

Swedish

she was the nanny for Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik, and Tiger spent a year trying to wrangle a date. Parnevik says he has rued eventually having introduced them.

Hell, just for the way he dressed at the team's 2016 world championship rally in Grant Park.
