1. snapper (history's 42nd greatest monster) Posted: February 02, 2012 at 06:13 PM (#4052272)Jimmy Dugan had better advice.
I hope not, because Cecil Fielder is supposed to be the other inductee this year, and that could be awkward.

Looks like a pretty impressive group... Tino may be the worst inductee to date. Odd that McGwire has been inducted, but not Bagwell or Palmeiro.
The TWHHOF doesn't want no guys in there that have questions about whether they used roids or not. You either did or you didn't.
most popups with RISP as a cardinal.
It's a good thing he pulled off that last part all by himself.
Since I'm too lazy to RTFA, what is the criteria to get in?
What's that; "there's no crying in baseball"?
Good choice. It doesn't say in the article either.
clarified that for you
There's also a "Wall of Achievement" which is apparently only for pitchers. Not sure what David Price did to get inducted -- first decent pitcher in Tampa history?
They apparently used to give a "most productive hitter of the year award" but stopped after 2006 -- perhaps because they gave it to Freddy Sanchez (and Joe "Maurer") and Ted's ghost visited them and kicked the #### out of them.
There was also the Splendid Splinter Award which honors ... well, it seems obvious at first but ...
1996 McGwire
1997 McGwire
1998 Sosa
1999 Ripken
2000 Nomar
2001 Jeter (I vaguely recall somebody hitting 73 HR that year)
2002 Bonds & Thome
2003 Delgado & Pujols
2004 Brooks Robinson (he had a hell of a year!)
2005 Ortiz
2006 Howard
2007 Carlos Pena
yeah, thanks.
Avoid the clap.
If the criteria is "must be as good as Tino Martinez," they must have an enormous amount of wall space for plaques.
"This has to be a Tampa thing."
"The Ted Williams Hitters HOF is in Tampa??? I've been here for 30 years."
As already mentioned, no Bagwell, and I don't see Griffey in there either. Some kind of waiting period after retirement in effect?
I missed the years he was very good. Looking at bb-ref....still don't see it. I see a couple of good years, but I'm flabberghasted at how much love he gets for a guy who really was mostly an average player for a most of his career.
Heck if they had a hall of just good players, I'm still not sure he belongs. From a Cardinal fan point of view, he's a lesser version of a first baseman version of Tommy Herr with a few more hanging on there years.
I have no idea if Tino still lives in Tampa or not but he is from there, probably has family there, and if doesn't live there now is perfectly happy to comeback for this event. Then throw in the fact that he was a recent famous Yankee and the area has a lot of relocated Yankee fans and it looks like this was a draw induction.
I would pitch that to Grantland.
You think you're clever, but it's Halls of Fame all the way down!
I never understood why Bertrand Russell didn't just reply, "Turtles all the way down to what, dumbass?"
