Tom Hanks says Dice-K would make good movie

Cool! Hanks can piggyback this with his Schilling tribute…“The Man With One Red Sock.”

Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks thinks the story of Daisuke Matsuzaka, Japanese star pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, would make a good film.

Matsuzaka, known by his Boston nickname Dice-K, has been under intense pressure after the Red Sox spent more than 100 million dollars to acquire him last year from his Japanese team.

“An interesting movie, I think—one I’d want to see, if they made it—would be the story of Dice-K,” Hanks told the Japan Times in an interview published on Thursday.

“That movie would have conflict and cultural clashes and superb sports skills and sportsmanship,” he said.

“It would really be something in the right filmmaker’s hands.”

why dice k over Hideo or Ichiro? I mean Dice hasn't accomplished much as a major leaguer (I would put So Taguchi over him in career value so far)

#2, because Dice-K's story has a nice Hollywood ending--a World Series victory.

Not the films I care to see.

#3, I agree, but you know how things go.

Daisuke's Japanese part of his career is definitely movie worthy. 256 pitches in Koshien? Hell yeah

But will Tom Hanks play him?

He's good at pitching, earns millions and wins things.

What a boring movie.

I'd much rather see a movie about Josh Hamilton or Ugueth Urbina.

If Kevin ######### Spacey is doing the casting, definitely.

I'm thinking Penny Marshall.

If they embellish the story to include the Japanese Mafia, Scorsese would be interested.

Kevin Smith. But only if Dice-K starts making lots of gay jokes.

Emile Hirsch?

Ah yes, the story of Daisuke Matsuzaka, the touching story of the baseball-loving kid living a hard-scrabble life, pulling himself to play in the benighted Japanese leagues, until finally making it to the big stage, the Major Leagues.

Oh, wait, this would be the story of Daisuke Matsuzaka, the son of an upper-middle class family who attended a private school/baseball player factory, had access to the best training in Japan, was drafted #1 overall and immediately started playing for more money than I've ever made in a year, had great success and fame at a young age while playing in front of crowds of 30,000+ and on national TV, at the age of 18 scored a hot celebrity girlfriend (later wife) eight years his elder, made millions of dollars in baseball and endorsement contracts, then signed a multi-million Major League contract, with a laundry list of amenities. Yes, truly a touching story.

Personally, I'd love to see the Masumi Kuwata story. Guy overcomes mob ties and an arm injury to meet his dream of pitching in the majors.

I'd like to see a movie about Kazuhito Tadano. Oh wait, they already made that one.

Yes, truly a touching story.

You forgot to add that it can end with him triumphantly winning a World Series, on a team that no one was surprised to see win the World Series.

I wonder who David Eckstein's equivalent is in the Japanese Leagues; i.e. a guy that's really not all that good yet it doesn't stop the press from fawning all over him.

That guy would make a good movie.

WOW!...and here I thought I was jeal-o-miffed for ending up on the cutting floor for the Springsteen "Glory Days" vid and Daniel Johnston "Devil and..." flick!

How does one know if someone saying "Daisuke" or Dice-K? The whole nickname is stupid just for that reason. The nickname is just a crutch for people who cannot spell his given name. My new nickname for A-Rod is Al-X.

Hey, that's pretty good. I bet Sterling could do something with that.

You could make the Igawa movie, but then the movie would be 2 hours of watching him play on his playstation in his dorm room

Christopher Walken made to look asian would be great in the starring role.

The best part is Walken would almost certainly accept the role.
