Tommy Lasorda’s World: Mike Piazza

Some wacko producer should record Lasorda under the name Lee Bluewood and have him do “Proud To Be An American Mike Piazza Fan”.

I was proud of him when he was my bat boy.  I was proud of him when he played college baseball.  I was proud of him when he was drafted.  I was proud of him when he went to the Dominican.  I was proud of him when he became a Dodger.  I was proud of him when he won the Rookie of the Year.  I was proud to see him play in the World Series.  I was proud when he became the all-time leading catcher in home runs and that he finished with a batting average over .300.  I was proud to see him get married and have a daughter.  I am proud that he was a 12-time All-Star, and I am proud to say that one day he will be in the Hall of Fame.

But what I am most proud of is his heart, and his determination.  What he has accomplished is the perfect example of what someone can attain if they believe in themselves.

I love you, Michael.

What you meant to say was, "I am proud of the ten dogs that Tommy Lasorda is dumber than."

If it were anybody but Tommy Lasorda, I would feel bad for the abuse heaped upon the guy around here. But since it is Tommy Lasorda, carry on. Carry on.

Tommy, what did you think of his performance?

The irony would be off the charts if Piazza were actually gay and came out of the closet. That would be a fun thread around here.

I was proud to see him get married and have a daughter....I mean, really proud. And surprised. Proud and surprised. And relieved.

Y’know, just because you don’t want your kids to be gay doesn’t mean you’re a homophobe.

I, for one, would be very disappointed to find that out.

After all, I would be deprived of hearing them whine over the phone about what hellions their kids are being and how they’re driving them up the wall (anybody else here wished to see if their folks actually would do this?).

I could never experience the joy of loading my grandkids up with Cocoa Puffs with chocolate milk washed down with Jolt Cola while watching three straight hours of Looney Tunes and sending them home.

I would never get to hear my daughters complain about the loser her daughter is dating (and the lip she gets when she tries to discuss the matter with her) and how it’s keeping her up nights.

The disappointment isn’t about homophobia--it’s about being denied revenge!

Just imagine--you wait years and years for payback only to learn that it will be forever denied?

It could make a man act irrationally.

Best Regards

John

To be fair, they could adopt.

For the revenge to be sweetest, it must be their own DNA that denies them their sanity.

This is what lesbians and artifical insemination are for. No one need escape the torture of children if they don't want to!

Tommy is so proud, he wanted to throw a parade in honor of his pride for Mike Piazza. It would be a happy parade - a gay pride parade, if you will.

lasorda is a douche, no doubt. but i've pointed this out before, he and his son did not have all that bad of a relationship. i work with a guy who hung out with the younger lasorda, and he tells me it was not an antagonistic relationship. i realize this is second-hand but my colleague sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

Tommy Lasorda is dumber than ten dogs

What is the origin of this quote? Also, I assume the implication is that ten dogs are dumber than one dog, but why would this be so? Assuming the dogs have different areas of intelligence strength, wouldn't a combination of the ten dogs be smarter than any individual dog?

(yes, I realize this is a joke - and one that I find very funny in that nonsensical, stupid funny kind of way)

Hardly. Ever see a group of dogs together? All they do is rip all sorts of #### up, pee on everything, and keep everyone up all night with their incessant poker playing.

I stole it from Hunter Thompson--back in the (glorious) watergate era, he said in one of his columns "Nixon is guiltier than ten dogs"

(now, I don't know if thompson meant that ten dogs are guiltier than one dog...)

"Ten Dogs" was Spiro Agnew's nickname in high school

I figured someone there would have noticed you could rearrange the letters of his name to say "grow a penis"

I hear "dumber than a bag of hammers" a lot. I think I recall it popping up in Chandler and Spillane novels often.

"dumber than a box of rocks" is popular, and has that internal rhyme going.

This morning's prostate exam is probably why I've been so ###### today.

Or maybe it's my 13-year-old daughter's umpteenth hissy fit this week.

I need some excuse, right?
