Top prospect Eloy Jimenez ‘really close’ to joining the White Sox - Chicago Tribune

Sox player development director Chris Getz also has an idea, and he told WSCR-AM 670 on Sunday that Jimenez is “really close” to joining the big-league club.

“He has done nothing but perform,” Getz said. “This guy’s been able to drive the ball to all fields. He’s been able to set up pitchers. ... He’s got a pretty good arm. We just want to make sure he’s as ready as possible. We’re getting really close.”

Thank God.

I just don't see the white sox catching the Orioles or Royals to nab the worst record, and they seem pretty safe as the third worst team at this point, although I suppose they could catch the Padres. Actually, the Mets could still slip into the discussion, especially if one of their top 2 starting pitchers falls out of the rotation because of injury or pity.

I kinda doubt that is a factor in whether to call up Eloy, as opposed to starting his arbitration clock. It was correctly pointed out in another thread recently that there really are only a few prospects a year where it really makes any sense for a team to play service-time games with them, but Jimenez really does appear to be good enough that he's one of them.

Over in Gonfalon Cubs, we've been pissing and moaning lately about how that trade has worked out for the Cubs so far. *grumble*

I really hope we don't get to the point where teams are openly gaming their rosters in order to move from the fifth to the fourth overall draft pick.

They'd lose me as a fan if that happens. At least until they actually are good again. He should already be in Chicago. Worrying about service time in 2025 with the CBA expiring before then is pointless.

I hope they do call him up both because he's a pretty exciting prospect and because I hate service time games. That said, I can't see why he's not up already. Maybe they're working on a waiver deal for one of their current mediocre OFs or DH to open a 25-man slot. Their offense has been cromulent with a 96 OPS+.

They just put Leury back on the DL today. I have no idea what they are waiting for. Eloy was pulled last night with "flu like symptoms", figured he was coming up to replace Leury today, but no.

ZIPS thinks he's ready to put up a 120 wRC+ now and there is nothing more to prove at AAA, he's bored by his own admission at times and he's hitting 380 with a wRC+ over 200!

He got hurt after 2 weeks in AAA, and has been back off the DL for about 2 weeks. So 29 total games at AAA, and only 18 in AA last year. I think you can argue he's been promoted fairly aggressively, but also he's deserved it each step of the way. He's hit even better in AAA in AA, so I bet he's forced the issue, but also understand being a little cautious. I'm sure he'll be up soon; there's just too much time left this year to really drag the service time games into next season IMO.
