Trevor Bauer: ‘I don’t really miss a whole lot about Cleveland’

Reds starter Trevor Bauer has struggled in four starts with the Reds since the Indians dealt him on July 31. Entering Sunday, the right-hander allowed 16 runs (15 earned) on 23 hits and eight walks with 30 strikeouts in 23 innings. That’s an ugly 5.87 ERA.

Nevertheless, Bauer says he’s happier in Cincinnati than he was in Cleveland. Via FOX Sports Ohio, Bauer said, “It was very easy coming in. Everyone did a really good job being accommodating, making it easy for me to make the transition. The information is great here, the coaching staff is great here, and overall I’m a lot happier here than I was. Sometimes you don’t realize how unhappy you are in a situation until you’re out of it. Just kind of the day-to-day life. I miss some of my teammates and stuff, but overall I don’t really miss a whole lot about Cleveland.”

In his final start with the Indians, Bauer struggled immensely against the lowly Royals. As manager Terry Francona came to the mound to remove him from the game, Bauer angrily hurled the baseball from the mound all the way over the fence in center field. Francona was not happy about it. Bauer was fined a couple days later, then the Indians traded him the next day.

But Cleveland leads the nation in drifters, while all Cincinnati leads the nation in is chili that resembles spaghetti sauce!

Not all that much - spaghetti sauce tastes good.

Didn't the dude show up to an Indians game in the stands the day after he was traded?

Cleveland is a better city than Cincy, but that's not saying a lot. Glad ol' Trevor is taking to it like a duck to water. He's pitching great and in no way seems like a guy would throw any teammate under the bus at a moment's notice.

No, he'd throw them under a drone.

Bauer is very talented, but he definitely marches to his own drum.

To get the best out of him coaches and front offices have to put up with a lot of odd behavior that wouldn't be tolerated under normal circumstances. It wears out an organization and a fan base over time, especially if the results are inconsistent.

I'm sure Bauer just seems himself as being frankly honest and true to himself when he says such things, but he doesn't do himself any favors with the typical fan.

All I can say is good luck to the Reds organization. I suspect there will be a time, perhaps sooner rather than later if the results aren't there, when Bauer will find himself "unhappy" with Cincinnati too, like it was with Cleveland and Arizona.

Perhaps it is for the best that he claims he will only sign one year contracts once he reaches free agency. Then perhaps he won't ever wear out his welcome with his act before moving on to a new organization.

The "people just can't handle me because I speak too much TRUTH!" excuse is a classic self-delusion. Some people grow out of it. Some...don't.

Yeah Bauer seems like a few people I know who are fond of explaining that they are “truth tellers” or “tell it like it is” which is usually code for “I’m an #######.”

Nah, he'd probably throw them over the centerfield wall.
