HOW WILL THE TWINS LOSE TODAY?!

Twins are right there with the Mets for most disappointing season. The Indians are looking very beatable, but the Twins have just been horrid.

Let's just concentrate on the National League for a few days, and root for the floundering Nats to pick up 3 games on the Braves.

Ummm, since they're both playing American League teams, not sure how we do that.

The bottom of the 1st inning and the top of the second inning of Detroit at Toronto took 13 pitches...combined.
The Jays went down in 6 pitches, the Tigers went down in 7 pitches.

The commercial break between those at-bats took longer than the total at-bats.

It's like both teams are in a hurry to have the rest of the Canadian holiday off for themselves.

Yeah, this has been said twice, and there is no "watching the Nats/Braves" and not watching the Sox/Yanks this week.
   7. Random Transaction Generator Posted: July 02, 2018 at 01:48 PM (#5703823)
Update:

Mike Fiers has now gone through the Jays entire order (3 innings) in just 21 pitches.
19 strikes, only 2 balls.

I will make a crazy guess that this was the point of Andy's comment, a stealth "let's go Yankees."

Eh, we've been discussing this for awhile now and myself and most of the Red Sox don't really do this. If the Red Sox win 105 games this year, I'll consider that the most amazing season. If NY and Houston each win 108, then so be it. Any win total above 100 for the Red Sox would be incredible and I'd be happy with that as a fan. The team has done extraordinarily well this season considering the massive holes in the lineup from C, CF, and 2B.

The Red Sox are a championship calibre team yet the best player on the left side of their infield is Mitch Moreland. Now I like Mitch and I think he tries real hard but he's not really the anchor you build an infield upon.

I feel like that really sums up Morelands career. He's never been great, but he's always been good enough. Almost every team he's been on has had an alternate that was supposed to take his job away and/or make adding him seem like a stupid idea...but then at the end of every season, he's ended up with around 500 PA, and the guy who was supposed to make him useless is on the DL, sitting at home, or playing somewhere else, while Moreland throws up another solid enough season in the last exciting way possible

Especially if you're putting him on the left side. Wait, are left and right switched in Australia?

He's probably solid enough with the wood to survive but maybe being one of those "clubhouse guys" and a 1B that the rest of the IF likes throwing over to because he's a good receiver type of thing seems to work in his favour.

Agree. If the Yankees finish ahead of the Red Sox, New York's advantage at those spots may be the difference. And David Price.

Christ, Scherzer can't even get out Porcello. The Yanks are going to have to rely on themselves tonight, cuz the hapless Nats ain't gonna be any help.

They have one relief pitcher who is 4-for-7 with 3HR and a single and a walk. That includes a pinch-hit grand slam.

That's the only "identity" about the Reds bullpen that I know...

Severino's Game Scores against the Red Sox, Astros and Angels: 34 at Boston,** 86 at Houston, 63 vs Boston, 61 vs Houston, 73 vs Boston. Let's see if Scherzer can match that.

** On a 38 degree night.
   36. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: July 02, 2018 at 08:23 PM (#5704221)
Porcello getting through. Though his usual 6 2/3 innings usually involves giving up 3 runs(which is fine) so the Red Sox will need a couple more before this is done.
   37. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 02, 2018 at 08:28 PM (#5704222)
The Yankees have signed Luis Severino's younger brother. Seems prudent.

So Rick coughing up runs at his usual rate of 3 per 6+ innings, 1 already and Scherzer now settled. Sox will need another run or two to win this, Scherzer with 7K's and cruising now..

Mookie doing a nice job of dealing with a lead that had grown to small for comfort.

Walking the two hitters before Judge to start an inning seems risky. Developing.

EDIT: Since it worked, more teams should try the "clog up the bases and put pressure on Yanks" strategy, eh?
   47. Jay Seaver Posted: July 02, 2018 at 09:46 PM (#5704302)
As much as I don't believe in jinxes, someone needs to smack Dave O'Brien for going on about Bryce Harper never driving in 100 before that home run.

I mean, O'Brien should be smacked anyway, but this was egregious.

The idiocy of having a non-hitter bat in front of the second best hitter on the team is maddening. I don't know what Boone is thinking and it will likely cost them the game.

NYY blew chances in the 9th and 10th that we’re just infuriating. I’m a Yankees fan and even I don’t think they deserve to win this (if they do). This very good team is sooo bad at small ball.
   58. Loren F. Posted: July 02, 2018 at 10:44 PM (#5704326)

Yankees earned that L. Awful offensive effort.
   60. rconn23 Posted: July 02, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5704334)
In addition to a pitcher, they also need a first baseman who can actually hit. Cashman and company are still under the delusion that Bird is good.
   61. Chip Posted: July 02, 2018 at 10:58 PM (#5704335)
Always amusing when the Yankees get burned by the joke that is right field in NYS.
   62. Loren F. Posted: July 02, 2018 at 10:58 PM (#5704336)
Maybe Bird needs some seasoning in AAA or something, but we haven’t seen too many flashes of the promise that so beguiled people in 2016 and 2017. He should have been able hit a sac fly to bring in the #%$! Winning run.
   63. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: July 02, 2018 at 11:04 PM (#5704339)
0 for 12 with RISP ain't gonna win you too many games. Teenagers continue to haunt the Yankees bullpen.

Boone's lineup construction is maddening.

NY - 19-10 since June 1.

Stop your complaining. Your team is good. Your pitching is over-performing to compensate.

It's like I wrote a few days ago: The Red Sox have more holes in their lineup than the Yankees, but the Yankees' Big Boppers have more holes in their swings, and too many of them either can't or won't adjust those swings when they get two strikes on them. They're like the little girl with the curl.
