TSN: Richmond to DL

NEW YORK—The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right-hander Scott Richmond of North Vancouver, B.C., on the 15-day disabled list with a sore shoulder.

Richmond is 6-5 with a 3.69 earned-run average in 16 games, 13 starts, this season. He has gone seven innings in each of his last two starts, going 1-1 and allowing just five runs.

The Mets don’t know injury woes.

All currently on the DL (though Downs could come off any day now). Robert Ray, who had a couple starts earlier in the year before getting sent back to the minors, is injured too. Halladay had a turn on the DL. So did Ricky Romero. What the #### is going on here???

Perhaps the #1 #2 combo could be explained by super defense which makes typical AAAA journeymen and waiver wire pickups look like quality pitchers.

Looking at their 40-man roster, here is the list of pitchers that were in the majors on day one, and have not been on the DL:

Brian Tallet (reliever, converted to starter, but still leads the team in starts)
Jesse Carlson (reliever)
Jason Frasor (reliever)
Shawn Camp (reliever)

They've used 11 different starters. They currently have 6 starting pitchers on the DL, plus Halladay and Romero were on it at one point.

Was Brandon League ever put on the DL? He has a suspicious gap in his gamelogs in early May, but it's only 8 days off.

At what point should the Blue Jays think about blaming Brad Arnsberg? Given the Jays great track record with mediocre arms, I hope that he doesn't get blamed for the outbreak of pitching injuries, but it's hard to say that it's just bad luck.

Toronto has used 22 pitchers, but so have the Angels and the Indians have used 25. The league average is 19.

According to b-r, Cleveland has already used 43 players this year, so they're already reaching beyond the original 40-man roster.
