TV By The Numbers: World Series Game 2 Ratings Detail

Subhead: “Through Two Games Down 19% vs. 2007.” The best fans of out-of-market baseball seem to be in St. Louis, natch.

- The 8.1/13 for Game 2 is down -27% compared to last year’s 11.1/18 for Rockies-Red Sox on a Thursday, and down -30% from 2006’s 11.6/18 for Cardinals-Tigers on a Sunday with a big NFL lead-in. [...]

- The first two games of the 2008 World Series have averaged an 8.7/14, down -19% compared to last year’s 10.8/18, but just -11% versus the first two games of 2006 (9.8/17).  That said, the World Series ranks No. 16 among all prime time shows, +38% better than the average ABC/CBS/NBC in prime to date (6.3). [...]

- Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg led all markets with a 31.3/47, followed closely by Philadelphia (30.7/44).  Florida markets Fort Myers and Orlando each posted a 13.1/20 to place third, followed by St. Louis (11.5/17), Charlotte (10.3/15), Boston (10.1/16), Minneapolis (10.0/16), New York (9.8/15) and Milwaukee (9.7/15).

Hat tip to Awful Announcing.

So Tampa beat Philly in the TV ratings? Here I was thinking Tampa was an awful baseball market deserving contraction while Philly has the world's most PASSIONATE fans.

No, that's St. Louis. Just ask 'em.

Good for Tampa. This will really help them develop a fan base, which I have to think is tough for an expansion team that has never won very much. They probably weren't an awful market; just an awful team.
