1. Gamingboy Posted: May 04, 2012 at 10:31 AM (#4123372)There will be no more closing. Bud Selig has decreed the 9th inning will now be retired in Mo's honor.
So, does the game end after 8, or do we just skip ahead to the 10th (like those office buildings that have no 13th floor)?
I'm not sure. I'm barely smart enough for Newtonian physics much less the quantum bizarreness Selig is creating with this one.
Rivera post-age 32 season (when most careers are ending): 238 ERA+ over 640 2/3 IP with 365 saves. Just once after his age 32 season did his ERA+ go down in a season (2007 with a 144). In fact, that was his only season after age 32 when he had an ERA+ sub 200. Wow.
It would be statistically nice if it does end here though - his first relief season: 5 saves, his last: 5 saves. His 2nd season: 43 saves, his 2nd last: 44. His 3rd season 36, his 3rd last 33. 4th's: 45 and 44, 5th's: 36/39. Just funny to hop over and under 40 in a pattern like that on both ends of a career.
Sadly, this is becoming a thing everywhere. They do it on MLB broadcasts, they do it on the news, they do it at actual baseball games, pretty soon they'll start doing it at church and during funerals. I'm going to go full Gaelen on this and say this clearly marks the end of civilization as we know it, and possibly the death of man as a thinking, reasoning creature.
