Twitter / @CHConfidential Help me fix the DVR status…

I really love Clubhouse Confidential on MLB Network. I don’t love the way MLB classifies their programming for DVRs. Tip to MLB Network: the first time your show appears it’s “New”, after that it’s a “Repeat”. Since they repeat the shows multiple times in each day, I can’t record shows without completely filling up my DVR. Since my wife also likes to record some stuff, I’m screwed if I don’t have time to watch a show the day it’s aired.

If you have a Twitter account do me a favor and Retweet my post. If you work at MLB Network, please pass on this request to the person who can fix this issue.

I really don’t want to miss a show. Please help me!

Totally agree. Drives me nuts. They have a generic description, so TiVo thinks every episode is new. It happens with Simpsons episodes occasionally, too.

In the absence of the change requested here being made, is there something you can do at your DVR level to "resolve" the issue on your end? Most DVRs will allow you to set up a manual recording, so if you know that Clubhouse Confidential is on at the same time every day (I don't know), you could simply set up a manual recording to record the channel from, say, 4-4:30pm every weekday or something similar. A lot of DVRs will even pull in the title of the show that got recorded in your saved recordings.

Kind of agree with Ray on this one, McCoy. Yeah, technology has fantastically improved our lives, but there's little harm in telling someone that their technology isn't working in the ideal manner. Especially when the fix only requires some intern to make a few keystrokes.

I know on my DVR (Verizon FiOS) that if I change the setting to "record only at scheduled time" it will record as you describe, on a set time and channel whether or not the show is on then.

FYI, this may not be MLB Network's problem so much as a problem with the guide info provider. Each of the cablecos/satcos/telcos uses some company to provide TV guide information.

Normally, that's where the problem lies, though it could be that MLB Network isn't giving good info to the guide providers.

My DVR (AT&T U-Verse) lets me set it to record any "new" broadcasts at a specific time of day; I use that for Clubhouse Confidential. Seems to work.

I think you're missing the point of CK's rant. He isn't ranting about suggestions but about people bvtching and taking rather extreme stances over issues that are extremely minor or easily solvable with just a little bit of effort.

For instance TJ says this DVR issue drives him nuts and yet as mentioned by Jose with just a little bit of effort on a person's part the issue is solved.

In otherwords, "GIVE IT A SECOND, WILL YA? CAN YOU GIVE IT A SECOND?"

On a sidenote you're not really agreeing with Ray since Ray is stating he hasn't listened to the link.

You have no way of knowing how many times I've come really, really close to saying this to my wife. Only a well-developed since of self-preservation has helped me to bite my tongue; one of these days it will slip out and it will not be pretty.

Or the MLB Network could get the guide info updated. That's the fix that would benefit viewers the most. Fixing the guide info also works best for MLB as well. I am not requesting that they learn how to defy a immutable law of physics. I am asking that they make sure the guide information is correct. It's not an unreasonable request.

Using the Louis CK card every time someone complains is silly. Sprint had a cell phone tower out near my house recently. I could not make phone calls from my house or work for almost a month. Should I have said "Damn 100 years ago I would have had to writt a letter and wait weeks for a response. I'm just lucky cell phones are around. Why complain?" If the running water in my house stops working, should I not complain because years ago, I'd have to find a stream and fill containers or build a well?

Setting the DVR to record at a particular time would work about 80%-90% because MLB Network preempts the show from time-to-time. Yes, it would still record most of the shows. Why settle for that though when the DVR technology is already present to allow me to tape a show whenever it's broadcasted? Again, I'm not asking for the network to violate an immutable law of physics. All it would take for this fix is someone at MLB to take notice and get it fixed.

The Louis CK bit was about people being pissed because their gizmos didn't work exactly how they wanted them too. So a cell tower being out for a month wouldn't fit into his bit. Now then if you never could make a phone call with a cellphone by your house and they install a tower so that you can and on the first day it breaks down and it takes a month more to get up and operational and you complain about that then that would fit into his bit.

But something breaking down and not working at all isn't what this discussion is about.

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking for and even expecting improvements from products. I'm glad I'm not on this site after using my 2400 BPS modem to dial into AOL and waiting through 25 minutes of busy signals to type in "Keyword: Albright" to get here but that doesn't mean that I should accept that it's as good as it can be. If there is an improvement to be had I think telling companies that I want those improvements is a reasonable thing to do.

One of the benefits of modern society is that there are more ways to contact companies and request improvements or other changes and that is a good thing. Companies have no excuse for not knowing what their customers want and likewise as a customer I have no excuse to complain that I can't reach anyone. Whether or not they listen is a different story. I love that I can put pretty much every photo I own on my iPhone and carry it around with me. I hate that for some reason my iPhone doesn't display photo titles so I don't necessarily know what they are. But I've contacted Apple about this and at some point I imagine that will be an option.
