Not sure I'd call it a fracas. More of a brouhaha? Or a skirmish. Definitely not a donnybrook though.

Nothing like the melees, rhubarbs and set-tos they had back in the day. Today's players couldn't have cut the mustard back then.

I thought that in the good old days they just pulled the onions from their belts and threw them at each other.

Gomez is a repeat offender in this domain, why does he get such a weak suspension?

How does Cole not get suspended? If he didn't walk over and get in Gomez' face, none of this happens.

Also, link is dead.

Can you describe the ruckus?

no, it has been suspended.

'Cause Cole didn't walk over to get in Gomez' face. He was backing up third base which is his defensive responsibility as the pitcher. He yelled at Gomez while walking back to the mound.

'Cause Cole didn't throw a punch. He yelled at Gomez. You don't get suspended for yelling. You get suspended for throwing punches (or trying to hurt someone with a baseball).

Fairly tame as ruckii go. It certainly fell far short of being a pier six brawl.

Well, he should get something. He initiated the whole mess. If batters deserve bean-balls or a lecture while being slowdanced by a catcher for admiring a HR for one second too long, pitchers should be punished for inciting a brouhaha.

Maybe because he was wildly over-punished for last year's thing while the actual perpetrator got off scot-free.

No, that's wrong, and kind of dumb.

He didn't walk over - he was in the area of 3rd base before Gomez was. Nor did he get in his face - he wasn't within ten feet of him. Other than that, though, your summary is dead nuts and reveals no bias whatsoever. And even if either of those were factually correct, nice standard. If Cutch catches the ball, none of this happens - how many games for him?

Whatever Cole said, nobody other than Gomez - not the ump, not the base coach - had a problem with it. I definitely see how Snider might have gotten more than he did because he seems to be the guy who pushed it past "F you!" "NO, F you!" F you is not and hopefully will never be the basis for a suspension.

Well no. I just looked at the play again. Cole is a good ways down the 3rd base line when Gomez gets to third. The third baseman is clearly between Cole and third. Cole walks *past the third baseman* to within +/- five feet of third and Gomez(the clip I looked at cut to a different angle while Cole's still moving towards third, so he may have gotten closer) and he's barking something at Gomez as Cole starts to turn toward the mound.

Nice red herring on McCutcheon, though.

Who is this "McCutcheon" of whom you speak?

When Gomez walked away from the bag, why didn't Cole flip the ball to his 3Bman and erase the triple? Did the ump call time? It would have been the ultimate "play the game the right way" move to tag Gomez as he was wagging his tongue.

so is it your pt. that Cole should be suspended for yelling something at Gomez?

It is far from a red herring to ask how far you are willing to take your "He didn't do anything wrong, but if he hadn't done what he did, the other guy might not have totally lost his mind" logic.
