Two Hercules L’Hospitalet Players sign with MLB Organizations (including UUU Jr.)

Ugueth Urbina Jr. is the son of the former Venezuelan big league reliever with the same name, who was convicted and sentenced to prison in 2007. Urbina Jr. and his mother moved to Catalonia, Spain in 2005. The right-hander spent his early years with CB Sant Boi and the FC Barcelona before joining Hercules. When his fastball reached 87 to 88 MPH, scouts noticed him and he signed with the Seattle Mariners organization on October 22 last year. The New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins also were interested in the young Urbina. It is expected that he starts his professional career this summer in the Venezuelan Summer League.

Awww ... was hoping you'd make a L'Hospital's Rule joke in the intro.

Perfect username for that comment. I had hoped for the same thing.

Absent everything else about father or son, I am just delighted to know there is another person in the world named Ugueth Urtaín Urbina. (Yes, I know UUU Sr.'s mother's last name is Villarreal, but let me enjoy his initials the way I've written them.)

Ugh. It pains me to read that UUU was chosen as the highlight of that story here on BBTF.
Nobody RTFA, did they? Haha. Sorry, just had to

CBW, I'm confused about your complaint. You shamed me into reading TFA and some other kid also signed (which I was clever enough to deduce from the title), who looks like he's no more certain of ever pitching in the majors than the other. Why wouldn't the poster focus on UUU, Jr.?

I presume that CBW was the signing scout with the other player (Castillo). (or at least played a role, he's Arizona's Int'l Dir. of Scouting)

It seems like having a family history of trying to set people on fire would be the ultimate make-up question.

Bet his pitching looks good in slow motion then.

Well, he hacked at them with a machete first.

He's a real flamethrower who knows how to swing it. How is that not a positive makeup?
