This article is incredibly interesting!

Three main points are discussed regarding catchers' performance at the plate:
1. They seem to be able to "steal" some called pitches while batting, in a statistically significant and extremely interesting way.
2. They do perform better against pitchers they have previously caught, to the tune of about 2.5 runs over 500 PAs on average.
3. They're either better or worse at the plate on days when they're catching a knuckleballer. I didn't think this bit was worth much.

It's mostly framed (ha) in the context of a discussion with Tyler Flowers over why some of the new stuff at BR thinks he's so valuable. The discussion of the relationship between the catcher and umpire, and how he thinks about it, and how it may influence what happens when a pitch is thrown, is really fascinating.

Very intriguing article. Most interesting was the top 10 batters in getting calls had 6 current or former catchers.
