Ump Bump: Kapur: ESPN.com sucks on weekends

Has anyone noticed how much ESPN.com, especially their “MLB” page, sucks over the weekend? Maybe not, since the time when most people most obsessively check the internet is during the week, when they are at work and supposed to be doing other things.

But now that I am living in Japan, where due to timezone differences my weekend hardly overlaps with the US weekend, I really notice it. The front page hardly gets updated. Web gems don’t get posted at all. Don’t even think about new columns or blog posts. And breaking news stories and trades sometimes don’t get posted until as late as an hour or two after they are covered elsewhere.

...It’s cute and all when some sort of mega-news goes down over the weekend and a video gets posted wherein Buster Olney looks like he just got out of bed, but if a site like mlbtraderumors.com can afford to hire people to cover the weekends, ESPN should too.

Do you really want more Pascarelli?

I knew even second post would be too late to make the obvious comment.

Looks like "umpbump" sucks Monday through Friday, too.

Coming from someone that is obsessively searching for new material every day of the week, I totally agree. And it would be nice if KLAW started writing about things other than the draft too.

I get 100% of my news from bbtf.

In college, occasionally the topic of messed up ways to raise a child would come up, like what a kid raised on our floor of the dorm and solely by the inhabitants of the 10-12 rooms would turn out like, or "What if, from birth, you kept the kid on a steady, medium-strength dosage of LSD, and on its first day of school, you stopped?" That one led to a rousing discussion. Anyway, I wonder exactly what a person who truly *did* get all their news from Primer would be like. Say one of the Wonder Boys, they were what, 16 when they started coming here? From that moment until now, 5-6 years later, truly the only source of any news. It's an interesting concept.

Anyone have a baby they want to donate for the experiment?

They'd think Pavement was the top band in the country.

I have a few sabermetric blogs on my Reader. THT and Tango don't update much over the weekend, if at all.

(M)ost people most obsessively check the internet is during the week, when they are at work and supposed to be doing other things.

I think your answer is in there somewhere.

What? You mean they aren't?

I get most of my news from Primer. It's a pretty good source of news, actually, if you read the political threads.

And they'd wonder why the Libertarian Party was so popular, yet apparently never drew any support on Election Day

I coulda sworn Wilco was the biggest band round here when I first started visiting. Was that just the height of their popularity, or a shift in members, or both?

I get most of my news from Primer.

I found out about a number of celebrity deaths here. MJ, Anna Nicole, Farrah, Heath Ledger; to name a few.
