Unit, eight-run fourth propel D-backs

Randy Johnson doesn’t consider himself the most glamorous baserunner.

“Watching me hit and run is like watching Manute Bol shoot a three-pointer,” said Johnson, the D-backs’ 6-foot-10 hurler, referring to the former basketball player, who stood 7-foot-6.

“It isn’t a pleasant sight.”

The sight was more than welcome, however, to the D-backs on Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, when Johnson smacked a two-run tiebreaking double in the fourth, sparking an eight-run inning that would lead to a 10-4 win over the Phillies….

Johnson fought through the at-bat, fouling off four pitches from Phillies pitcher Adam Eaton before lining the double down the left-field line.

“It wasn’t like he just went up there and swung at the first pitch and got a cookie and hit it to left field,” manager Bob Melvin said. “He actually was grinding through the at-bat, fouled some pitches off and finally got a ball that he could handle. I was impressed.”

Almost an entire article talking about Johnson’s hitting. What will they think of next.

If the Diamondbacks make the playoffs and if they face Adam Eaton, I know who BoMel should use as the first bat off the bench. Between this ten pitch double and the bases loaded walk earlier this season, Eaton is officially Randy's #####.

The Phils would just counter with Dae Sung Koo.

If Adam Eaton gets Johnson out, as he should, it's still a 2-2 game after the 4th, not 10-2. Talk about your pivotal ABs. (Not that Eaton would haven't imploded the next inning.)

If Eaton makes his next start after the All-Star break, it is a true sign that the Phils do not feel compelled to win. Even when Eaton was pitching like a #4 starter, he was continually teetering on the edge of disaster.

Well, off to Italy for 8 days. Arrivederci, BBTF.

Neither is your pitching, Unit.
