Update:  Even today, ballplayers like Albert Belle and Chris Truby targeted by false accusations

Albert Belle was arrested for two counts each of indecent exposure and DUI at a soccer game in Arizona Sunday, but a man who was there says the former baseball player was taking a piss behind the door of his car, only he pulled his pants all the way down. . . According to Swindells, a woman nearby was angered by the sight of Belle’s butt and said something about her kids being present, to which Belle replied, without turning around, “Don’t look, then. If you gotta go, you gotta go.”

Maybe Albert should have got advice from Larry David and JB Smoove?

Seems like "but" isn't quite the right word there.

At the least, it's not spelled correctly.

I'm on the guy's side. I don't know why he dropped trou, but sometimes you gotta go, and a parent need not be outraged that their child caught a glimpse of a grown man's naked ass.

Tell this lady never to take her kids to San Francisco (Portland, etc.) then. I remember the shock and awe my now 9 year old had when she first witnessed a man whizzing out in public. I wasn't thrilled about it, but it was an instructive experience for her.

I guess Belle lost his Stadium Pal.

I mostly would be too (at least as far as involving the cops). Seems like a lot would hinge on whether he did, in fact, turn around and shake his genitals at someone or if that was fabricated.

What about the accusation that he turned around and wagged his junk at them?

I agree that public urination is (usually) understandable (hey, we've all been there...), but even by kindergarten boys can usually take a p!ss without dropping their pants to the floor. And the rest of the accusation - if true - is clearly past any kind of reasonable line drawn in the sand.

Public urination is not something we as a society should encourage* (for a host of reasons including public health), but the weird hang up many in the US have about the human body is just plain old crazy.

Naked rear ends or anything else for that matter are not a big deal. You don't want to look? Not looking is really really easy. Get over it people. Sheesh.

* Edit, but sure, we have all been there. Especially out in the woods, far from any restrooms.

You should be able to pee without putting your pants and drawers around your ankles.

Ok, he angrily wagged his dong at them. I agree he shouldn't do that. I also don't want my police officers and district attorneys spending much time on this.

I get that, and I agree with BM that Americans tend to be childish prudes when it comes to nudity. I've been skinnydipping with strangers at hotsprings before, and on our honeymoon the wife and I found out that the north end of Makena Beach in Maui is clothing optional* (we were a little surprised at first but not offended).

That said, wagging your twig and berries at minors seems to cross the line into actual perviness, IMO. There was a man when I was in junior high that used to hide in an alley by the school and expose himself to kids that walked by (I personally happened to see him twice). That guy definitely deserved to be arrested, IMO (and he eventually was). What Belle is accused of isn't as bad as that, of course, but it's not just a harmless glimpse of the human body either (merely seeing his a$$ while he was peeing would have been). I don't think he should do jail time or end up on the registry or anything, but a ticket/fine is probably reasonable, right?

* Admit it - some of you kind of want to go there now... ;-)

More accurately, about 6 inches of lower cheek/upper leg is visible, in the gap between his shirt and pants. Problem seems to be that Belle was wearing stretch pants of some sort, rather than trousers (or shorts) with a zipper. Give him a ticket for public urination, with the max fine since he can afford it, but the rest appears to be overcharging.

Yes, I'd be ok with a fine.

I've pissed plenty of times between cars or in alleys or in New Orleans on seemingly half the stoops in the French Quarter but I've had a little discretion about it, even when I'm pretty lit.

He was pissing in the middle of the parking lot (which appeared busy) and didn't even really try and hide it. He opened the front door to piss behind but that's...very little effort. At least find a couple of SUVs next to each other and piss in between them or grab a bottle and piss in that.

The charges seem a bit much but as others said if his reaction was to taunt them then well, maybe he hurt his case.
   16. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: March 28, 2018 at 02:50 PM (#5644423)
This will happen (a guy taking a knee next to his car) about 4,000 times on Monday morning/afternoon in the Miller Park parking lot next Monday. I'm actually taking my kids to Opening Day in Milwaukee for the first time, my wife has been warned to expect to see butts and so forth. Doesn't matter how many Port a Johns they put out in the parking lot, this is gonna happen. Some people used to bring their own, or a huge paint bucket and OSB or plywood and construct their own. That's not permitted anymore.

It's one thing if he's in the woods or something but that's just standing in the middle of the parking lot. A grown man should be able to hold it long enough to get to a restroom or at least find a relatively secluded area. Completely agree with the people saying this is probably not something a DA should be spending a lot of time on.

With that said how ###### is he? If he exposed himself to a child doesn't that open up a whole host of other issues? Is he looking at being a registered sex offender from here on out?

This is a bit too hippie/anarchist/libertarian for me to agree with. Sometimes you gotta do all sorts of things, but a civilized human does not do whatever he wants whenever he wants.

Lassus, I imagined it in a dark covered lot, not in the middle of a well-lit open lot with a zillion people. The photo makes it look more egregious. But I agree with: make him pay the fine and let him get on with his life.

If you're going to piss in a parking lot, please do it by your own car, not someone else's.

A guy I used to work with was pissing in an alley one night on his way home from a bar. Cop saw him and while the citation was being written, my work mate mouthed off to the cop.

So the cop changed the ticket from public urination to public masturbation.

Part of me is wondering if a half-turn yell over the shoulder while finishing up was interpreted as wagging. I have a notion that outraged parent will see what he wants, and drunk lot pee-er might not be covering what he expects. But honestly, if you're going to drink at the game then have the sense to pee before leaving, or head straight to another bar. One of the very foreseeable aspects of beer is eventually getting rid of it, and I don't have a ton of sympathy for folks who can't see that far ahead.

It's not just about money at that point, though. Isn't the latter charge enough to get you listed as a sex offender?

The guy HAD to take a picture, because the standard line today would be "I don't believe Alberte Belle was actually peeing outside, because if he was, someone would have taken a picture of that." I hear this all the time: a photo or video is proof that something actually happened, and a lack of a photo or video is proof that it did not happen. It is a weird world when everyone around is carrying a camera and has the skill to take a picture and send it around the world in the space of about 20 seconds.

I have both incredible bladder strength (no, it's not the superpower I would have picked, but that's not relevant), and am incredibly stealthy for a "big" (6'4" 240lbs) man. I have to bellow out a hearty "hello" to people lest I sneak up on them and they get freaked out when little 'ole behemoth me suddenly gets picked up by one of their senses (usually sight, but I like garlic, so maybe smell sometimes? Then hearing (I am very quiet, people say I should wear a bell around my neck, but that would make it that much harder to hunt birds (if you use a gun, I consider you a ##### of the first calibre, real men sneak up on aves like a feline (yes I just called out others for being pussies by comparing myself to cat (which is a tad hypocritical, I admit, even more so that I only did it so I could open one more parenthesis (because I'm trying to break the record for the most nested post in BTF history (no, I don't know jack #### about coding, even though everyone else in my family does it for a living (not really, my wife is a mathematician, my daughter codes, my son is a bio-medical engineer, and I'm drunk (but with my incredible bladder strength, I barely have to pee at all). Then touch probably by default, I don't think I've ever got so close to someone that the first time they noticed me was taste, I'm not even sure that would be legal...)))))))

See that? Seven close parentheses, thank your God that I don't work in the cubicle next to yours, whether your (I did that on purpose, just to make you angry) a copy editor or a coder, my #### would #### you up, and then I'd get paid the same as you, just to add insult to injury. Don't act like you don't know people like that, you know exactly the type of person I'm talking about it.

Anyway, I digress.

I've never been caught peeing in public, because of my strong bladder and stealthiness, which are both pluses, and despite my drunkenness, which is a minus. But I do have a friend who was taken down to the pokey for such an offence. He's a big dude, not too tall, but round, and he was pissing behind the Omineca's best known nightspot, when he was confronted by a cop.

A lady cop.

She told him to stop, but concerned about his long term bladder and prostrate health, he refused to interrupt the stream, and did not comply with the officer's orders.

He should have been more concerned about his short term health.

He tried to escape by pushing her out of the way and then running past her (which is dumb, because he's sloth speed), but she used a judo throw (which, if I understand it correctly, judo uses your opponent's own weight against him, so he was especially vulnerable to that), and then pepper sprayed him.

And straight to the pokey he went. Fat, drunk, and peppery is no way to go through life, son.

Not, of course, limited to the US. A few years ago there was a public art project in London called One & Other that involved, over the course of 100 days, people being given an hour on the vacant 4th plinth in Trafalgar square to do whatever (within reason) they pleased for the amusement of the passing public. A few of these, of course (attention seekers gonna attention seek) chose to disrobe on the plinth - nothing overtly sexual, just the simple pleasure of feeling the air on one's skin - and the usual thinkofthechildrunness ensued. I remember reading a news story about one of them, in which a passing person was interviewed and of course the horror they felt wasn't for themselves, but for their children. I'm willing to bet money that far from being horrified, the children just thought it was funny.

My wife was raised in very permissive surroundings in a hippie commune in Vancouver in the early 70s. It wasn't particularly healthy for her. Nudity itself I don't think was too bad, but it was just the tip of the iceberg of the "Wow, just let it go, man, and hang up your hang ups" attitude towards sexuality that wasn't good for her psyche. Not that she's too scarred or dysfunctional or anything, and she didn't experience anything that would be described as criminally abusive, but she was seeing things that youngsters shouldn't be seeing, and if you're ever left wondering if conservatism in these matters has a place, I would say she's a walking example that it does.

She thinks about privacy and intimacy in a totally different way than I do. I was brought up in a household that the hippies would describe as "totally square" with parents that hated each other and eventually divorced, much to everybody's relief, and I just don't think about the human body in the way she does, a much healthier way I would say; like the seeming consensus here, I think we worry too much about things like inadvertently seeing some ass as a guy takes a whizz, I mean it's not great, give him a ticket, but in the end, I'd say, "So?". But concern over it, I don't feel is completely unwarranted. Nobody here is saying that, but there's a line that you have to draw somewhere, and I'm I'm drawing it in a more conservative place than most people due to first hand experience with somebody who grew up on the wrong side of that line.
