Updating 5 free agents who could sign soon

This has to be #fakenews. It doesn’t look like another free agent will ever sign with a team.

Slowest, most boring off-season ever.

Weird headline -this is just "updates on 5 free agents." No evidence or even argument why any will sign soon.

It just says that they could sign soon, not that they will. But that is a pretty meaningless distinction.

Have to feel bad for Baseball Prospectus and those putting the new Annual together. Might be best to skip them this year.

Heck, they're barely "updates". The updates are "nothing has changed." No new teams are mentioned, the most exciting development is that some mystery team may have made JDM an offer of unknown years/money. On Moustakas we don't even get rumors, just a list of teams that might be a good fit. Not a dig at the writer -- he's got a column to file and it's not his fault there is no news to report.

I didn't know where to post this but since it has to do with possible signings: This from MLBtraderumors when discussing the Brewers...

playoff-hopeful club has since added quality pieces to its roster in Lorenzo Cain, Christian Yelich and Matt Albers.

I just wanted to make the obviously snide remark that one of those pieces of "quality" is not like the others....

I did learn from this article that the Rangers had acquired Matt Moore – six weeks ago, it seems. Along with Doug Fister, he rounds out a powerhouse starting rotation :)

Matt Moore is only 29! Seems like he’s been around forever.

Albers is more a piece of quantity, in multiple ways.

"Fister, Moore and pray for...er, maybe that's not our new slogan."

I think it went off to the publisher two weeks ago, even before the Cain signing. Plus it's expensive this year. You could always pre-order it at Amazon for twenty bucks or so...$26.64 for pre-order right now.

The Matt Moore who plays for the Dolphins is 33, if that helps.

And the Matt Morris who used to pitch for the Cardinals is 43.

Former Dolphins WR Nat Moore is 66.

Pitcher Matt Moore was a top prospect the same year as Mike Trout, so I'm actually surprised he's that old.

I can't keep him straight from Mike Minor and if we add their ages together we get 59 ... if that makes you feel better. That would make them a year older than Mike Moore. Mike Moore was a pretty good (well, durable) pitcher who compiled 28 WAR ... Minor-Moore combine for just 9 ... so maybe the Rangers should give Mike Moore a call.

And Mike Moore, 1980s Mariners warhorse, is 58 years old.

There is light at the end of the tunnel though. Pitchers and catchers report in two weeks.

Last year was obviously a debacle of monumental proportions for Moore -- but prior to last year, I thought he was a pretty nice get for the Giants. Extremely reasonable 9 mil option for 2018, another reasonable 2019 team option for 10 mil.

His K rate in 2016 looked it had finally recovered to his prior "good (2012-2013) levels. He always walked too many, but it felt like he had gotten back to pre-injury Moore where he was just a slice off the BB rate away from being a pretty nice mid-rotation SP... on a really friendly team deal.

Hell, before the bottom fell out of the FA market - I didn't think he would be a terrible Cubs acquisition target. 9 mill is (was?) essentially reclamation money - and the Cubs would have only been looking at him to take a 4 or 5 slot anyway. Just get him back to "meh" and he'd be a no-brainer at 10 mil for 2019.

Of course, with the bottom falling out of the FA market - that changes the calculus.

Still, I think it's interesting to compare the two former Rays rotation mates... they're both the same age. Both looked like promising anchors to the baby Rays. Both got hurt.

Obviously, you cannot ignore Cobb having a nice 2017 while Moore was disastrous... but they're the same age, both have had injury woes that derailed what looked like promising careers.

Timing is everything I guess - even though it appears Cobb certainly isn't getting his 4/80 -- I presume he's gonna get more than 1/9+1/10 team option.

And of course light heavyweight boxing champ Michael Moorer is 50.
