US to help develop baseball in Vietnam

Bombs Away Lee May!

US baseball coaches will be sent to Vietnam to help develop the sport in the Southeast Asian country.

This was part of a project to develop baseball in Vietnam discussed in Hanoi on August 24 by the Hanoi Sports and Physical Training Department and James Rhodes, who is the son of former major leaguer, Dusty Rhodes.

Marking the occasion, James Rhodes presented two bats that his father used as gifts to the Hanoi Sports and Physical Training Department.

Rhodes, who is a Vietnam veteran, said the project will contribute to promoting friendship between the US and Vietnam.

I thought his son's name was Dustin.

So the Hanoi authorities are now asking the US to help them develop a distinctly western sport, after we bombed their country into oblivion during Operation Rolling Thunder.

Tell me again. Why is it so essential we remain in Iraq with boots on the ground again?

So that we can prevent their illegal immigrants from smuggling themselves across the ocean in equipment bags and bombing all our ballparks. There's also the matter of making sure that we keep those $35.00 parking fees safely in the hands of Halliburton, since otherwise they'd be subject to taxation by Communistic U.S. local governments.

So we're sending advisors?

Yeah, that'll end well.

Teaching football to the Vietnamese probably was out of the question, what with Operation Linebacker II and all.

Is a sport played better in Japan, Korea and Taiwan than anywhere in Europe "distinctly western"?

I'd say something about teaching Iraq and Afghanistan baseball, but Jeff Bronkey's already got Afghanistan under control.
